Yet another reminder I need to get out to Colorado one of these days! Absolutely stunning shots and videography, it really looks like you stepped back in time! Though I've never been out to D&SNG, I'll be visiting their sister railroad here in NC soon at least c:

We desperately need more railfanning shot on film instead of digital. The look of this is just incredible

@@neosystem852 Well, I guess my color grade worked well! This was all digital. Shot on a Red Weapon Dragon 6k and a Canon C70. Graded in Davinci Resolve with Dehancer. But i agree wholeheartedly. We need more legit film rail fanning. And as soon as the budget allows, thats high on my list of career goals.

@@gr_winnettWell thankfully if you ever wish to make more proper railfanning films, there are a lot of fantastic places that are clumped close together to help aid in making the most out of a trip. Northern California has a lot of railroading action for instance. There's the Roaring Camp & Big Trees Railroad, the Santa Cruz Beach Train, the various cable cars and PCC streetcars of San Francisco, the Niles Canyon Railway, the Western Railway Museum, the California State Railroad Museum, and Railtown 1897 all within a relatively close vicinity to each other that a planned out month or two of filming can knock out several great locations. Pennsylvania is also a darling of railfans, with Strasburg Railroad, Steamtown National Historic Site, Electric City Trolley Museum, Rockhill Trolley Museum, and especially East Broad Top Railroad in recent years are also dotted around Pennsylvannia, although those aren't as closely compacted as Northern California. Best of luck to your future projects though!

I shot those (and different parts of the whole thing) on an old Sony PDW-700 2/3” hd broadcast camera (upscaled to 4k). The b&w part specifically on a very funky standard def lens from an even older Betacam SP camera. I was just trying to get as soft and imperfect an image as possible for the base look out of camera. Then did the black and white grade with the old version of Filmconvert from a few years ago, plus an overlay of really dirty film grain i found to finish it off.

The Weapon Dragon is an phenomenal camera. Helium is still my favorite sensor they've made but that Dragon is a close second. Best skit tones IMO. It can also intercut really well with Alexa Mini footage. I've done pickups on Dragon when the rest of the project was Mini and matching in the grade was super easy. I love the DSMC2 body as well. So many amazing productions have used it, it's honestly a top tier purchase considering how affordable it is now.
