Australians are happy people, We have a different version of Edward the emu In Iran, A crow sees a Partridge and loves the way the bird is, so he tries to be like that and tries until he both forgets to be a crow and patridge and is lost for ever. Well....That explains the depression rates.

thank you for making and sharing this!! i'm a university student and i've been working with a lot of literary analysis over the last two years, but it's been difficult to grasp the concepts of analysis itself, and to put together ideas and arguments despite understanding the content the way you demonstrated for the “edward the emu” story. it helped me understand the specifics a little better and i'm hoping to practice more in my own time! :)

This video is pretty terrible, what most people struggle with is the underlying assumption that literary analysis can be approached 'formulaically' and you in this video exacerbate that misconception by laying out literary analysis according to these hyperspecific 'modes' without acknowledgment that any analysis can contain any combination of these 'modes' in any degree (you also fail to acknowledge that there are way more than four lenses lol). The only way to make truly insightful literary analysis is to identify nuances in the form and content of the text and analyse it in context and by connecting it to their own personal experience and knowledge and the only way to get better at that is practicing and being open minded, you don't need a 'framework' or anything of the sort, but this video encourages readers to limit their mindset and perspective by setting out to analyse with a specific 'framework' and 'lens' in mind. Also I disagree with you positioning yourself as some all-knowing guru of close reading because just because you are good at analysing one type of text doesn't mean you'd be remotely decent at analysing any other type of text

This is a really good, in depth introduction. You did a great job at taking something intimidating and making it accessible. I would recommend this for professors teaching first year oriented literature courses (in American universities because that's what I know), as it would be a good primer to guarantee that students are on more equal footing in regards to analysis.
