    I still have my 2006 3. 2.3 L No rust as I’ve kept it in the garage. Still runs great and has very low mileage for its age. I’ve driven her gently as I’m now a very old lady! 😂 I keep all repair and oil change records. I had to have my fuel pump lid fixed as I had the emissions code come up just recently. You’re right, they had to remove the gas tank to get to it. Bad design in that case. Age is getting to her like myself, but hate to let her go. Best car ever!

    I just recently purchased a 21' ES 5 Speed Mirage... its WAY funner than it looks or should be... I know its low rent, but its designed like an engineer thought out everything.... that would put off the average person, but as an engineer myself, I can recognize exactly what the thinking is behind this car. Believe it or not, it was on a list in June and it tops the reliability, #1, above Toyota or Honda... (not all mitsubishis, just this one) it has old but incredibly refined mechanics under the hood... it drives like a sewing machine, at least the 5 speed does. Is it good for a family, most likely not, is it good at interstate speeds, yes it will do it but it is lightweight and you can feel the air moving the car when behind an 18 wheeler, but if you do not do interstate that often, its a perfectly fine automobile for 2 people. Maintain it reasonably well, and if you get a CVT, change the fluid every 30k and it will be solid upto 200k with no issues. No need to spend 60 to 100 thousand dollars, they all end up in the junkyard anyway given enough time. I've only had the car about 5 months, but its growing on me, and I actually enjoy driving it, and I can't say that about every other car I've owned. That could be the 5 speed talking to me though... who knows?!?!

    Interesting- How do you feel about the safety in a crash with it being so light ?

  • @Have.An.AmicoDay
    @Have.An.AmicoDay12 сағат бұрын

    @@MJ100k that is the one thing I didn't mention... its true that I do not live in an area close to interstate, although I have traveled on it a couple times in the Mirage. If you are in it and crash at 65mph into a giant truck or 18 wheeler, yeah, you probably going to be dead... if you drive into a normal car or average suv at 40, you probably will survive ok... it has good crumple zones but that can only get you so far when going the higher speeds. You have to drive a little more defensively, but that is good practice in any automobile and too many people take driving too leisurely. Its a very dangerous activity.

  • @Have.An.AmicoDay
    @Have.An.AmicoDay12 сағат бұрын

    @@MJ100k I will also mention the CVT as I have looked into the issue... it uses the same Jatco CV7... but mitsubishi programmed it differently than Nissan, so they have a better track record of reliability. The other thing that helps it is the Mirage only has 78HP, and the Versa somewhere around 140, you basicaly could floor the Mirage all the time and never stress it out. But what kills them generally is the 60k fluid change interval is not sufficient, the fluid gets burnt and plugs up the filters as early as 30k, and that is why CVTs have a bad rap... if the owner drained the fluid every 15k and change the filters every 30k, they would almost all last well into the 200k range or beyond without a hickup.

    @@MJ100k I have both a 21 Mirage and a 1993 Geo Metro convertible (55hp)... the Mirage can do 100mph and there is no situation where you will slow down due to hill grade... however the Geo there are hills where you start up at 60mph with the foot to the floor and you will up at the top be at 50mph... the Mirage is not like that at all... you can cruse at 80mph with the air conditioner on, its no big deal.

(like I did in the video) If there is no power to the fuel pump when turning the key… either the security system disabled that circuit or there is an issue with the circuit itself. You can try and see if there is a fuel pump fuse or relay.. or broken wire somewhere or bad pin fit at a connector somewhere… So you’d have to try and find the wiring diagram if possible… If you’re familiar with electrical diagnostics. If you’re not then I wouldn’t mess with it beyond checking the fuse and relay. Also, is your keyfob ok? are you able to try a different key? Or can you make sure your keys battery is good? Make sure there isn’t a key or security flashing light on the dash when you try to start the car… If there is, it may be an issue with the key or security system… If the security system has an issue… It may not supply power to the fuel fuel pump or injectors when you try and start the car.. but it will crank the engine over… I’m not sure if (on your particular car) if the computer will disable fuel and spark…. Or just fuel. In summary: You can try using a different key, changing the battery in the keyfob.. see if they’re security light is coming on when you crank the car over. Check the fuses and relays for that circuit and if you’re able to see if power is going to the fuel pump when you try to crank it over - But if you don’t know how to do electrical diagnosis and if none of the other simple things I suggested work… you may want to take it in to Mechanic to have them check it out. I am looking at the 2022 Honda HR-V e:HEV L, which is the only trim available in hybrid here. 1.5L naturally aspirated version with battery. That's the top of the spec one (mostly, with some weird omissions like worse speakers compared to overseas models). I am not sure if the CR-V is marketed as the HR-V here (don't think so).

    @@DCypher7 According to Google AI- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating phantom braking issues in certain Honda vehicles, but it is not a recall: 2017-2019 Honda CR-V and 2018-2019 Honda Accord The NHTSA opened a preliminary evaluation in February 2022 into claims that the automatic emergency braking system activated without an obstruction in the vehicle's path. As of April 2024, the investigation has expanded to include 2020-2022 models of the CR-V and Accord, with reports of at least 31 crashes and 112 injuries. according to car and driver dot com- It’s under investigation: NHTSA's website says an engineering analysis is generally concluded within 18 months and can lead to a recall- Summary - Looks like NHSTA is still investigating the phantom braking issue at this time. However, your concerns about the HRV also being affected by the phantom braking issue - may actually be valid. I found a report on a forum about a persons HRV experiencing the phantom braking issue. forum.lowyat.net/topic/5379445/all This is just one person - and I can’t validate their experience… But, at the same time, I would be cautious with buying a Honda with AEB aka CMBS… at this time…. At least until the NHSTA investigation has completed. In the forum link I provided it mentions that you can turn off the emergency braking feature.. but you have to turn it off every time you get in the vehicle. (Annoying) Anyways, you can always try and find a Honda - without this feature or you can see if the specific Honda you buy can turn this feature off. Meanwhile: we will have to wait until the investigation has completed to see what happens. My guess is: there may be a software update to try and solve the issue at some point in the future. Hope that helps, MJ100k

    @@MJ100k My thoughts exactly! Unfortunately, I think I need a new car asap, and most other reputable car brands have issues too. My hyundai is a lemon and overall they have class actions for their engine, Corolla appears to have an engine coolant bypass issue (also a class action) but its better than a big safety issue like Honda), and generally v expensive for what you get.

    Hi MJ - thank you for your elaborated video. The quality of your editing, and information provided has inclined me to the subscription to your channel. I know you're probably too busy to respond to each and every user's comment, but - if you don/t mind, what would be your thoughts on a 2.0 petrol engine, i-VTEC, around year 2016-2017? I'm considering a purchase of an used car, with only 15 000 miles on it (if the data provided are true). The car would be primarily used for day to day city errands (kids, school, activities, etc. ... basically short distances driving), including a lot of starting and stopping of the engine.) Would you say it's an ok choice of a car for such role? My other cherry picks are 2018 Kia Sportage and 2018-2020 BMW 220i Active tourer. Thank you in advance for your time, consideration and reply. Greets from Europe.

    @@Segundo_Grande Thank you for subscribing 👍 Actually, we don’t get the 2.0 liter in the US for the CRV. So - I tried to do some research on this engine. It looks like it’s the R20A6 or R20A9. This looks like a slightly larger version of the Civic 1.8 liter engines we have in the US. The 1.8 liter is a great engine IMO - It has a timing chain (good) and is not direct injected (good) there’s a Civic that made it to 1 million miles with that engine… So I’m thinking the 2.0 liter version of it is most likely also very good. To put it in a CRV, which is bigger than a Civic…. It’s not gonna feel very sporty as compared to a BMW… But as long as you’re not towing it would be fast enough for me 🤷‍♂️ If you test drive it, and it feels good to you then go for it. Anyways- To answer your question - I would get the CRV. The BMW may be more fun to drive, but it also cost more to maintain. They are known to leak as they age…. Very expensive leaks (not good) The Kia will most likely not be as reliable. Google KIA Sportage common problems. The first things that pop up are engine and transmission. (Not good) So yeah I’d get the Honda CRV… But on my channel, before buying any used car… we do something called Automotive Nerd Research… In the US we have this thing called Carfax… That’s a service that list the history of a vehicle.. accidents.. maintenance history (so important) … odometer history etc.. Do you have something like this in Europe ? If so, use it ! Also have a car checked out by a mechanic BEFORE you buy it. In the US we have some people that do mobile mechanic business. These mechanics will come to your house to fix a car. They will also go to check out used cars, at the used car lots. So if people do this in Europe… Definitely hire one to have a look at the vehicle. It doesn’t have to be perfect… but you want to avoid getting scammed. In the US used car lots will sell you cars that have been in major accidents, are super rusted or need MAJOR repairs. A trained mechanic can help you avoid being ripped off. But they must inspect the car Before you buy it. Hope that helps 👍 MJ100k

    Have a 2014 Ford Edge limited 3.5 liter front wheel drive just peaked 103,000 miles very reliable only needed to change the alternator at about 102,000 miles I went ahead and changed exhaust manifold gasket and O ring for intake throttle body and clean throttle body as well pulled spark plugs just needed a good scrubbing clean them as for the famous water pump in the event it does Fail I plan on doing the repair myself of course it will take time fingers crossed hoping it's possible probably best to inspect the timing chain and its tensioners and replace all those as a package what are your guys's thoughts should I go ahead and replace timing chain and water pump ahead of time or keep it rolling until it gives out what is the proper way to approach this conundrum thank you

Just make sure to use the OEM special tool and the directions. If you have never done big jobs like this …. I would go ahead and pay a mechanic who has experience to do this one.
