Thank you SO much!! It was hard to the right model, i.e. the classic base.

if you have trouble whacking the Ellen key and it seems the chuck won't budge -- try the other side apparently videos like this break my brain into pieces by switching the point of view of objects. I was actually tightening it. Good thing the chuck is ruined that's why I'm pulling it out, no harm done.

Thank you for this. Later models of this blender don't have the vertical "teeth" around the coupling and the tool that ships with most replacement couplings is to wide to get through the gaps between them, so I was despairing of being able to fix mine. Two things I'll note: one, some models of the coupling (I suspect very old ones) do not have the holes in the base that you see in this video, but even after scraping most of the plastic off I was able to get enough traction with a screwdriver to make it work. Two, the video demonsstrates the _method_ but probably doesn't give an accurate representation of the _time_ involved: it took a solid 10-15 minutes of tapping before the old coupling finally detached on mine. Perservere!

Don't think it would have worked with my $40 Ryobi corded drill. Chuck seized, couldn't put an allen wrench in it. Didn't have a screw, instead some kind of weird permanent looking metal fastener. Took off case, seemed designed to be difficult to service. Returned it barely within its return period, got my money back.

Now that you got that chuck head off, is it possible to now put on a 1/4 hex shank head on that drill ?? Like the same 1/4 hex shank heads that impact drivers have ??

Sometimes with some of these "helps" you have to take them with a grain of salt. I've recently had a bit holder stuck in the chuck and I've hit it from the top, I've fucked it from the right and I've buggered it from the left and it still wouldn't budge. So why be a big angry bear and go down to the tool shop and get a new chuck replaced for AUD$30 all up. I got a keyed chuck (Metabo). You can get a ratchet (turn it on hard and then take it back a notch). So it's all sunflowers and rose petals until next time...

This method doesn’t really work if the nubs are completely worn off. If you simply just pry it up from several various points it will come off and then you can just remove any metal debris that remains. The screw tip that is attached to the motor is much more durable than the coupling so it won’t sustain any damage. My coupling was probably 30 years old so prying it off was the only option.

Great job thinking about how impacting it with a punch or a screwdriver will work. Worked great for me. Just had to have some pretty quick impacts against the rubber teeth. Thanks for the suggestion and video. I also put some anti-seize on the threads to make it a little easier next time

Order from a supplier that will send a small, flat spanner/wrench. There's no need to bang it out. The flat wrench will grip the drive and then you can use your hand or a pair of pliers to twist the couple off (clockwise).

The second one you did (DW 972?) was done AFTER you removed the bolt. Problem is, the bolt head is worn out from (previous attempts at removal?) and can't be done the way you show.... I don't think. So how do you remove the chuck with the bolt still in it? Or, can you?
@kennethdandurand34725 жыл бұрын
Got it. Had to drill out the bolt with a 3/16th bit and then used a 3/8 to get the top part out. Got lucky in that when I used the 3/8 bit it backed the screw completely out. The Large allen wrench worked like a champ with very little hitting of it.
