Ahoy! Welcome to the channel! My name is Melany! I'm a trans girl that likes making videos about whatever I feel like making videos about! It's mostly gaming related, but I also like covering things in regard to movies and internet/pop culture!

14:20 probably already told or know but if you play the version of Tee-KO from the Jackbox Party Starter it does actually do that :D
I didn’t know this actually! Good to know! Thanks so much
lgbtq+ people: *exist* homophobes and transphobes: STOP FORCING YOUR WOKE AGENDA ONTO US!!!!!!!11!!!1!!1!1!!!!11!1!11!1!1!1
dragon age inquisition should have gotten way more time in this video. there's a whole cutscene about how one of the species in the game has a whole cultural tradition of accepting trans people
The fact that some people say that video games are only “woke” now, even though rep like this has existed for a while is crazy.
JESUS CHRIST WHY DOES NESTLE OWN SO MANY BRANDS??
my absolute fav is vivid//stasis, silly offline singleplayer 4 Lane rythm game where you play as a lesbian Trans woman, it's amazing representation with a tense plot with a lot of room for cute little moments and some sad reflection. strong emotions and tense moments are always broken up by challenge levels to not hit you all at once. it breaks up the story with the gameplay pretty well, needing you to get things from playing songs to unlock the story pieces. just very nice and sweet and tense at times
As someone who has played and finished Persona 4 Golden, here are my observations about Naoto and Kanji, and their shadows: Your shadow is an exaggeration of your deepest insecurities, and how people perceive you, not how you actually are. Kanji is likely bi (considering the whole Kanji & Naoto thing), but his story is primarily about toxic masculinity, not homosexuality. Kanji's shadow being a flaming homosexual does not mean Kanji is gay necessarily, but rather, his shadow is a symbolic exaggeration of his insecurities over being seen as "gay" and "unmanly" over liking traditionally "feminine" things such as knitting, and him overcompensating by coming across as hyper masculine. You were basically spot on about Naoto (except for the pronounciation of her name, but I'm not one to nitpick over a pronounciation). Naoto's story is not about transgenderism, but rather about sexism in the workplace. Naoto's shadow wanting to be a man is due to her higher-ups looking down upon her for being a female detective and believing that being a man would be easier. In other words, her shadow wants the easy way out. In addition, her shadow being childish, in addition to her shadow's boss form looking like Astroboy is a symbolic exaggeration of how she is seen as "childish" and "unfit to be a detective" by her higher-ups. As far as Yosuke goes, I'm just gonna assume he's a closeted bisexual who hides his true nature by being an asshole. In other words, me when I was younger. That's why Yosuke's my favorite P4 party member, because he reminds me of myself. Hell, he even kind of looks like me.
Also if anyone actually thinks Naoto is trans, then you fundamentally did not understand her character. Or you didn't do her full social link.
"Nay-oh-to" 10:20 That has to be the worst pronunciation I have ever heard.
Oops
4:25 Or just remove the line of code that checks gender when initiating a date.
Melody nosurname is your inspiration right? I see a lot of motivation on your videos btw, keep it that way!
As someone who loves Persona, at times i respect it and at times i am disappointed by it when it comes to LGBT representation. For Persona 3, i can understand why the trans joke was acceptable back in 2006 but isnt now. Im glad they removed it. I also think its funny how it ended up being a double whammy, both removing a transphobic joke, but replacing it with a character made to make fun of extreme conspiracy theorists, which double pissed off far-righters. On Persona 4, i greatly respect that it was able to get as much progressive ideas as it did when it did. Persona 4 leans more into the "accepting your true self" idea than the other entries imho, making ideal for talking about things like gender expression, sexuality, and sexism. Kanji is a character that is quite ahead of his time, as you said heavily implied to be bisexual. I think whats so interesting about him is after he opens up about himself, he says something about how he found women intimidating, but he also mentions how he has to constantly hide his more feminine hobbies from men because they would make fun of him for it. Eventually he basically says that all he cares about is who accepts him for him, not what gender they are. As you said with Naoto, i dont think shes necessarily a trans character. She is definitely more of a dialogue on workplace sexism. Her social link ends with her deciding that she wont let a sexist society stop her from living as a woman. Its quite an empowering moment for her. Yosuke is definitely the stain on this all, though, because they removed the romance for him. I think what they intended was to have the end of his social link acknowledge that his initial homophobia toward Kanji was due to him not being able to come to terms with his sexuality in the way that Kanji did. Because that was all gone, it kinda messes with the dynamic a bit. That being said i still think P4 is considerably ahead of its time, talking about issues that send the anti-woke crowd into a frenzy nowadays. What is interesting is Persona 2 actually had same-sex romance. I hope they bring it back for P6
Also in mortal Kombat it is seen a few times mileena to be a lesbian I think with Tanya
I find it funny how Bridget is more popular than literally the rest of the cast combined including the protagonist Sol Badguy, yet has no actual relevance to the games plot or main story funny how it works sometimes huh?...
I've played Persona 4 Golden recently and the problem isn't that Naoto is trans or not, to me she's not, she's just a girl trying to avoid sexism by telling she's a man. But there is a problem with the way the game portraits this, and particularly how other characters interact with her. The game clearly shows that Kanji has a crush on Naoto or something, but as soon as she's revealed as a girl and not a man, it's okay for Kanji for example. There's all this "haha it's great that you're a girl" thing that still stay problematic even if she's not a trans person, because it shows how the mentalities are towards trans people. Tbh that's a huge part of why I don't really like the game, even though it tries to tell people to accept themselves as they truly are, just to make fun of it later (for example : Kanji accept the fact that even if he likes men it's no big deal, nothing important, yet there's all this thing about the "thank God Naoto is a woman, as if Kanji liking men was still a problem).
Y’all I’m bi but I have hogwarts legacy and genuinely enjoy playing it, so now I’m conflicted cause I wanna play the game since it’s already been paid for anyway but I don’t wanna feel bad for supporting jk Rowling
if you already bought it you should play it. you already gave money to her and not playing it won't change that. It doesn't make you a bad person to play a game you already bought.
the townnn inside me
im not naming any names cus this was genuinely well intentioned but god bless her heart (in the backhanded southern way) i have a relative in my family who is not very internet savvy, definitely a bit older, but wanted to play hogwarts legacy and thought that because of the trans character she was going a good deed how do i start this conversation there are so many layers of twitter to get through and im not sure she even has an account
I got hogwartz legacy but in my defense i dinit know how much of an asshole jk wroling was i only found out a few months later since i was in like 7th grade when i got the game and dinit know i was trans yet.
Can people stop bitchong about these, this is something that shouldn't be care less about, and criticise about the other stuff, I know is Ironic for me to say this.
As a possibly trans Persona fan, I’m very glad they changed the beach scene in Persona 3 for the re-release. It’s unfortunate that it was there to begin with, but I really appreciate that they went in and changed it
Man let people play what they want, if it bothers you then turn ur phone tf off and go outside
i remember watching laurenzside playing tomodatchi life a few years ago and she put her other ytuber friends in it and she made a girl mii and named it "hot boy" so her gay friend could have bf 😭
Happy lgbt existence to all!
Man everyone being mad about pronouns of Star Field, sounds like my dad, i was talking to him about how i keep getting misgendered in games, he said, and i quote, "Prounouns are bullsh!t. Girl, boy. You cant be fuck!ng neither, or all, or whatever." Im non binary. No wonder why i hate him so f-ing much.
The Japanese language doesn’t use pronouns that correspond to English he/she. Third‐person expressions are ungendered by default. If you encounter something that looks like a gendered pronoun in auto‐translated text, it is usually just pulled out of thin air by the translation algorithm. Please don’t think that auto‐translation is usable beyond getting a very rough idea of what might be said. Using it as a basis of criticism about specific word usage is plain wrong. Transgender issues arise in different ways in different cultures. Please learn what are real struggles of people within cultures other than your own, without preconception, and please avoid making a comment based on shallow understanding like that.
For reference, if you ask someone whether you can translate “he” and “she” into Japanese, you will be told that you can. But the words (彼/彼女) were specifically coined to translate European languages that have such distinction, and they are never used in natural speech (unless you really want to sound like an awkwardly translated foreign literature).
As a biiiiiiiiiiig fan of persona 4, Naoto is a very interesting character... I personally see them as trans (if they be non-binary or a man), because if a cis person faced discrimination in the workforce for "being a woman" I don't think their first thought would be "I'll just be a guy instead." Another reason is despite the second their shadow (which basically means their inner self they hate most) revealed that Naoto was afab, the team started using she/her pronouns (which felt very off,) however everyone who didn't know were still using he/him, and no one corrected them. There's also this very weird part on Christmas if you decide to date them, that they try on a skirt, feeling very uncomfortable in it. It really feels like the main reason the entire arc exists is for the transphobic gooners that think trans men are hot, or at least that's what 90% of the fans for them feel like... ALSO 6:54 the tweet is so strange "they're teaching healthy young girls to chop off their breasts" this sounds like they (and I wouldn't be surprised if so) like children WHY DO YOU CARE ABOUT A TWELVW YEAR OLDS BREASTS??????????
Wish you had gone over Gwyndolin from DS1
This video was fyeeee
I find it funny that people act like Vivian was never trans in the first place despite the jp version of the original game confirming it. Now that it's in the English version, suddenly it's a problem. I just really don't understand people sometimes.
Definitely gonna be a good informative video when characters from two of my favorite game franchises are in the thumbnail!
The republicans probably never will get tired of talking about the lgbtq+ community this way. The literal three conversations my dad opts to talk about at any point in time are quite literally “feminists are trying to take rights away from men”, “do better in college” and “Hungary” and he’s republican.
Interesting as a trans woman I have and did play Hogwarts Legacy. I seperate art from artist like you said. The wizarding world was huge when I was younger. I've given up on ethical consumption and I'm not sure if it's a right view or wrong view.... However on both sides a lot of bs was done. Do people hate us yes but beating them into submission and acceptance of us won't work either. It's a no win situation. Tldr: I bought it, I played it, I don't know if it was the "right" move exactly but I wanted to so I did. Hopefully this is understandable but I'm sure some people will judge me for it and isn't that what we ultimately want to be done with?
PS: The guilty gear conversation with Bridget actually made me cry when I originally saw it. Absolutely shows the struggle and encourages you to keep fighting to be yourself whatever that may be.

@@frishterdeciding whether or not someone deserves rights based on if their mean to you is CRAZY
Very fun and interesting vid! I'll definetely will check out more of the content, I also love the lil'avatar girl, really really cute :D
why are you making a big deal about this, not every game has to have LGBTQ representation, whats next are you gonna get mad at Pac-Man because He's not gay?
when did they imply that they wanted pacman to be gay
Why are you not using any brain cells? Did they all die? If not they must be starving.
Probably because Nintendo doesn’t want to be part of gays people stuff if you guys don’t need to be with the same sex it’s always has to be a male with a female also, very much people why are people hate the Harry potter game, because the Harry Potter series is garbage
12:33 Good job Nintendo👏👏👏
16:00 i’m so thrown off by this, being doubtful of her identity because of facial hair? that’s so sad to hear! Trans Woman ARE woman, PASSING OR NOT🏳️⚧️🩷
Yeah I’m gonna be real, I SO do not agree with my past self take on her. I think I was mostly worried she was intended to be a transphobic caricature, but in the time since this video’s upload I’ve come to learn she sure as fuck ain’t that :)
@@MelanyMikuthat’s so good hear! i resonate heavily w ladiva and hearing that made me feel a lil bad ngl, thank you for the reassurance! 🙂↕️🙏🏼
@toad_x aw I’m so sorry to have made you feel bad with that comment in my video. You and her are totally valid no matter how yall present :) 🏳️⚧️
@@MelanyMiku no need to apologize i swear! and thank you for that!!! this is technically my first time coming out to someone, i appreciate you listening!!
It’s not controversy….. No no…… It’s just insecure/in denial people angry that someone knows how to express themselves in a normal way and being loved
Ah, and in case there weren't enough bad things about Sirona Ryan, I am not sure if it was true, but I saw something about that in the files she was called "Mr. Woman" or something along those lines :(
Hy im a transgender female and I agree whit most things you said exept the hogwards legacy point I have always really loved harry potter and the wizards thing a lot so when hogwards came out I steel bout it not because I hate trans but because my love for that universe exeeds my hate for JK.Rollins. Also about the persona 3 scene Loking back on it I cane it was awfull but when I was a kid playing that game not only did a found that scene extrmly funny as I kinda got obsed by it by the ideia that a man can turn into such a pretty girl so yeah I think that scene really changed my life😅. (BTW im also going into bancrupcy because of that godam merch😅)
9:15 Wait, THAT'S the tell?... did no-one on the team know that women can... grow facial hair? 14:05 From what I hear, Otokonoko is a term that has been adopted by many people across the gender binary including some trans women. 21:10 I see "Sir" in the name but I don't think I understand the full issue here, what does the Ryan stand for?
Hey! Thanks for watching my first Pride Month video! Just wanna give a heads up that this is one of my earliest proper works, and as such my writing and research for this video is NOT at all up to the level I would consider acceptable for myself and my content these days. So please take some of this video with a grain of salt :) 🏳️🌈
You’re my best friend Melany ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Saw the notif for this as soon as it came out but i forgored about it, i really needed to watch this it made me smile and i really needed that ty
So, with Naoto, her thing isn’t really about her being trans, it’s that she wishes she was born a male specifically so she wouldn’t be discriminated against in the detective scene. Other then that she doesn’t mind her gender
🗣️Happy pride month everyone!
