  • @CarGuyV8

    For drag racing or for an emergency. Although depending on the automatic transmission in question shoving it in neutral can be bad.

    on a 90 degree V8 there is only 1 thing that determines the ratio of torque to hp (as it pertains to the bottom end). That is Bore vs stroke. Large bore short stroke is better for hp and high rpm. Large stroke and small bore is better for torque and low RPM. Believe it or not the 383 STILL has a bore to stroke ratio that favors hp over torque. 3.75" stroke and 4.030" bore... For instance a 5.4 ford triton has one of the most torquey bore to stroke ratios i've ever seen @ huge 4.17" stroke and tiny 3.55" bore size. This engine has a lot more stroke than even a 454 Big Block Chevrolet.... My point is that the main factors that contribute to the hp/torque ratio on these engines are related to heads/fuel/intake/cam/etc. Adding a longer stroke helps... The reason why this is so interesting is that the 5.4 triton falls on it's face (relatively speaking) if you're building it to race however great towing torque.... A 383 can tow like a mule and STILL put out big hp for racing. When it comes to torque be sure to Thank your vortec heads for being a very high intake velocity design. When we port vortec heads we hardly mess with the intake side aside from cleanup and adding bigger valves. The exhaust side of these heads is pure trash. We remove a lot of material and see a night and day difference on these heads when we address the exhaust side

    Hey I just bought a .480 camshaft for my 305 engine. Will it work going in the 305? I’ve found that the max valve lift should be .480. Can someone tell me what I should do to the heads? Should I change my crankshaft?

  • @CarGuyV8
    @CarGuyV823 күн бұрын

    There is no need to mess with the crankshaft. You’ll want new valvesprings. Main issue you’ll run into is the valvespring retainers hitting the guide seals with stock springs.
