Same thing last night - I'm pretty sure it was a gas line purge which is extremely loud - like a jet engine running full bore, hovering overhead. I would guess it was a purge rather than a break due to the hour = midnight on a Tuesday, industrial area etc.. I came across a main break/leak/purge out in the country, years ago, on my way to the office very early one Sunday morning. It was horrific as it was right next to the road. Like a scene in a dystopia movie. That mind-boggling roar on a deserted stretch of highway, unmarked utility vehicles but no people or other vehicles in sight - it was pretty creepy.

Then the Thunderbolt we are hearing is from the Stratton building. It was installed in about 1957 and removed sometime in 2012 or 2013. I need to call the city to see what they did with them. Just to end my quest to determine what happened to the. Btw. visuals.sj-r.com/picturing-the-past/2015/1/23/looking-for-a-sound Edit: I'm wrong. Ignore this comment.

Thank you for uploading this. You brought back memories of that night in Springfield. I remember the lightning was constant in the sky. I was amazed because I'd never seen lightning flash over and over and over all over the sky. And the weird "stillness" soon after the light show. That's when I took cover. When it gets still like that, trouble is coming. We got a little rain after the tornado passed Wabash Ave. More tornado's formed that night in and around Springfield. Scary Night!

Awesome video. The combination of the sirens and the thunderstorms is really eerie. I dont know how you managed to keep filming, under those circumstances i'd be running for the basement. And yes, the siren you hear is a thunderbolt. We have a lot of those in Cincinnati. They have that harsh buzzing tone to them that makes them very distinct.

I swear those sirens must be thunderbolts. But I can't work out what model they are. They're either Thunderbolt 1000's or 1003's. We need a person who know's about sirens better than I know. But I watched this video that was filmed in Lewisville, Ky and they have the same type of sirens from what I can here.
