IL LTC Ombudsman

IL LTC Ombudsman

Mandated by the Federal Older Americans Act and the Illinois Act on Aging, the Illinois Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program (LTCOP) is a resident-directed advocacy program which protects and improves the quality of life for residents in a variety of long-term care settings. Ombudsmen work to resolve problems of individual residents and to bring about changes at the local, state and national levels to improve care.

Most residents receive good care in long-term care facilities; however, far too many experience violations of their rights including abuse, neglect, poor care, isolation and lack of choices and meaningful activities. Trained community ombudsmen regularly visit long-term care facilities, monitor conditions and care, and provide a voice for those unable to speak for themselves. Long-Term Care Ombudsmen make every reasonable effort to assist, empower, represent and intervene on behalf of the resident. Ombudsman work is directed by the resident.

I think I misunderstood. I need the roommate's consent to use facetime with someone?

My father is in a long term nursing home. We (him, myself and my aunt) both have notified people at the nursing home that my father does not want thickened liquids and that it is his right to refuse this. I have contacted the social worker, nurses and administration and they are still not honoring his wishes. They even refuse to give him water if it is not thickened, so he has been having to drink out of the nasty bathroom sink. What should we do? I have documented all contact and the nurses state they cannot give him regular water unless there is a doctors order or refusal form signed. He has seen the doctor there and the doctor has not put in this form for him and he has not signed anything. Please help

I live in a Skilled Nursing Home in Evanston, Il. The Facility is a Dump!! Severly understaffed dependant on agency RN's and CNA's. 4 days ago the Executive Director was Terminated!! The Food is horrible. It's been over 6 Months since I last had a Care Plan Meeting. In March of this year I was asaulted by CNA working on my Floor. I reported them to the IDPH and they came to talk to me. The Investegatera gave me less than 5 minutes to tell them what happened. Then they sent me Final report saying there was no Violation!! Total Bullshit!!. I have nowhere else to go. i'm trapped here

I feel you. My spouse has been in a nursing home a long time and nothing is resolved. It's only resolved for a short time, few days, and back to the norm. I can't mention what nursing home for the fear of retaliation. How are you doing now after 10 months?

Great dialog about an often uncomfortable topic for many people or families. It is so very important but sometimes difficult to do with loved ones.

You should directly ask the facilty. That way if they havent you are also telling them that you want them to do this. If you wnated to share the name fo the facility, i could also see if I can find this out for you.

We all recieved a pay raise of $20 for a few months then when this reform was mentioned and in place our employer bumped us all down to $18 a hour on account of the reform. If we were going by the brackets he posted, alot of us were suppose to recieve $27.50-$29 with the encentive because some of us do not get benefits. The company was sued a couple years ago for 3million dollars on account of he wasn't paying us our holiday pay, overtime and for hours of work. He is right back at doing what he was doing so it didn't even make a difference. CNA pay should be higher I believe. We are the ones wearing our bodies down. When you have a company like I work for who refuses to CPI train people because it costs too much out of pocket for the owner of the company it's a toll on your physical and mental health. I love what I do and the people I take care of but these facilities need more checking into because our briefs are rationed out so not alot of money is being spent, our soaps are locked in the admin office so they can refill them so money isn't being spent amongst other things. Our facility could use undercover CNA's from the state. It's not right and it makes the job more stressful trying to do cares. I think some of us at my job are deserving of higher pay or the pay we are entitled to at all. Just saying.

So, the nursing home I'm working at join the program. All the workers who have 10 plus year of experience was dropped down to base pay. Then they gave the raise. Example I was making 23.50hour. They dropped me down to base pay which is 18.00 hour then added the 6.50 then which only gave me now my pay being 24.50 hour. So if you look at it I just got a 1.00 raise. Is that how it supposed to go?
