    How long have you been doing fpv? Looking at your video list i didnt find any previous vids. Some of this stuff takes a bit to figure out. The solutions or eureka moments always come when im doing stuff unrelated to fpv or other electronics...lol

    look inside the bivy and check the seam tape, it falls off (and slightly peels) over time fairly easy and the seams will leak especially in the hood area. You can use water to spot test an area with no seam (which should never leak) and then test a water puddle directly on one of the seems, I was astounded to find I would have been SOL if it was a serious situation. Seam-Grip w/WP may be a better alternative to the taping to prevent this but yeah CHECK THE SEAMS THOROUGHLY TO ENSURE A PROPER TEST.

  • @gm743633
    @gm7436332 жыл бұрын

    @@gixerags750 depends on age and how long they have been without power. For electrolytic capacitors they should have power applied for an hour for every month without power. Example would be if the radio had not been used for 12 months then you would turn it on for 12 hours before transmitting. It allows the capacitors to reform oxidation and working voltage limit. If the capacitors are too old (16 years) or are bulging on the ends or sides or leaking then replacement is necessary.

    I tie out the four corners with shock cord to make to make it stable. I also sewed a sleeve into the bottom so I can slide a pad in. Works great. It's a bit heavy for backpacking but a good hammock for car or ATV camping. Try this tips and you'll see a big difference. Nice review.

    I'm wondering if the pre drive transistor had the furry legs syndrome and the solder cleaned them up a bit, either that or the vr for the voltage regulation was oxidised and it became cleaner? Is it still stable? I had a slightl;y high voltage on a P30 then i was testing it under load with the regulator board unscrewed when i moved it and blew something. Now no voltage on the regulator output transistor and lost my low voltage on the pre drive transistor. Going to check the small glass diode but have ordered new regulator and pre drive transistors, hopefully this and possibly a clean up of the vr might fit her up.

    Thanks for your 2 posts on the Lawson BRCH. I just purchased the camp kit with a 30% off Labor Day deal and have been making setting changes just like you did in the first video. I have found this is a totally different hammock to set up and all of the typical hammock starting points are thrown out the window. I am still tightening my suspension straps and getting a better lay every time I do. I am at about 20 degrees instead of the normal 30 degree angle and I am finding the sag is not needed in the hammock because the spreader bars compensate for that instead of laying at a diagonal and twisting the b'jesus out of the symetrical construction of the Lawson. I have not experienced the vertical like you show as of yet but I am fast approaching it. I have also found that because the suspension is tighter, you need to lower the anchor point on the trees instead of starting about head height. Otherwise I am needing a step stool to get in and out and that is causing a vertical before I even lay in it. My other go to hammock is a Warbonnet Blackbird that I use for packing trips. The Lawson I'll probably use for car camping at campsites.

    just a quick note. This not really a fair test of the Goretex like material. Goretex works by using the heat inside the material to transfer moisture from the inside layer to the outside. Using it like this with nobody inside, the Goretex will quickly wet and the results will not reflect real usage.

  • @gm743633
    @gm7436335 жыл бұрын

    No, I don’t think there is a “truly flat lay” hammock out there. tighter hammocks have higher tension which tears them apart. Also being too tight will make it less stable and more flip-able. I am a side sleeper too and slept well in it. If you get off center to much you can slide and tilt on edge as I did in the video. Once I got used to it I had no trouble with tilting or flipping.

    Two weeks ago it was stolen, along with almost all of my camping equipment and my jeep Cherokee 4x4. I WILL be getting another. The weeping dampness was never a problem for me. I thought it shouldn't do that, so I tried to eliminate it. I shortened the knots on the outside rail ropes a little to raise the side "rails" slightly. It is a little tippy but staying in the middle is easy in just a short time. As with any hammock I have used storage is always a problem, no different with this one. Placing things under this hammock won't keep them dry, you'll need a tarp for that. But this hammock is all inclusive, you won't need to buy anything else to go with it. It also can go on the ground too. If you don't need the net you can just turn the hammock over and use it with the net under you. I wanted to make a better video with some commentary but I didn't have audio equipment to do that and audio sounded terrible. I never got around to it.

This included the KPS-xx linear supplies sold for LMR Service. forums.qrz.com/index.php?threads/troubleshooting-kenwood-ps-50.359408/ While this DC supply provides Current and Short-Circuit protection, their is NO OVER-VOLTAGE PROTECTION. Modding front panel for Voltage readout was NOT needed. Kenwood No Longer has front panel replacements (You dropped its resale value).

    @@shusukeueno6006 The USMC is more narrow, others have open heads or the pop up ring system that isn't stealth, or are top loading and not a side zipper. The older USGI (which is wider than the newer USMC) the Dutch Army loop (because unlike other loop pop up systems like Snugpack Ionosphere that had a netting that you can't cover) the hoop can be removed, and Carenthia especially are the overall better ones. I don't know what the Canadian is but if it's an open top it defeats the whole purpose. And I've used the USGI in the Marines, Army and being a train hopping hobo for years. That space is needed to put boots, gear like a rifle, and the contents of your pockets in (take your cover off, lay it next to you in the bivy, and put the shit in your pockets in it so you don't break it all and be uncomfortable), that extra space is there for a reason. USGI Dutch Army (an older Carenthia) Carenthia (expensive) USMC (but it's more narrow)

    The negative sides I found with mine are...... With the rain fly on it you have zero viability. The hammock is heavy and not good for backpacking. . If you have it set to tight and try to use it as a chair it will dump you on the ground. The up side is that it is comfortable and is basically a tent suspended between two trees. I consider it a straight lay which offers a lot of interior room. I have used mine in the Okefenokee Swamp and lots of areas here in Florida when canoeing. The customer service was exceptional when I contacted them several years ago. I have retired mine and have gone with the Clark tropical as a straight lay and the Warbonnet Blackbird for a diagonal lay. Both are good for backpacking , pack up nice and small. Plus they are mosquito proof the little bugs can not bite threw the material. When cooler weather chases the bugs away I use the Warbonnet Traveler. It's a real light weight ( diagonal lay ) backpacking hammock.

    The video was just a demonstration, I don't sleep in it that way. In the summer (Alabama) I just use a sheet or light sleeping bag. If I camp in the end of July and in August or early September I sleep in shorts and a tee shirt. In the fall just a Surplus army jungle bag (dated 2001) or black intermediate (dated 1996) and maybe my z-lite pad. In the winter I use the army surplus black intermediate or the extreme cold bag (from 1983 and 10lbs!!! Down and poly-fill) with or without the z-lite pad. A Goretex bivy is used as needed for keeping condensation off my bag at night.

    What able flex seal? I'm not sure if it would stick to the material but I've seen people spray it on the bottoms of nylon packs with no issues.

  • @gm743633
    @gm7436337 жыл бұрын

    Threads passing through any weight bearing material will elongate the material where they pass through. Can't stop that. I used a silicone water repellent spray and then a thinned mix of clear seam sealing silicone and acetone to try to penetrate the thread holes and the strap weave, but had little success. It really is a minor problem as no water runs inside, it just makes the inside anchors points damp. Using a regular hammock tarp eliminates this. I thought if I could saturate the strap material with some kind of flexible water repellent that this "treatment" would prevent water from soaking up the strap and wicking through to the inside. Silicon water repellent didn't work and thinning seam sealer to penetrate didn't work either. My thoughts on a solution was to cover the grommet hole and add a flap with a Velcro wrap to cover the strap loop and stabilizing line for a short distance. I wouldn't try altering my hammock myself, I feel it's a factory change that should be made. Maybe make the strap material not absorb water at all, that would be the best fix as it would not upset the production line, only the material used. My solution here was to just get a bigger fly/tarp. No more problems.

    I have one of these and I love it. I would suggest replacing the little blue rope that you attach the straps to with a metal turnbuckle (which I did) because those little ropes can break (which mine did...and I am not over weight) and the sensation of falling and hitting the ground while sleeping can ruin the rest of your night (which it did). I stake mine or sometimes tie the corners to nearby trees because I like a really flat floor. Best comfort for camping that I have experienced. Enjoy!

  • @gm743633
    @gm7436337 жыл бұрын

    Good Idea! I know the weight at the attachment point on the suspension can go from 1 to 1 at 90 degree's (straight up. 200 x 1= 200lbs) to 10 to 1 when straight across (0 degree's 200 x 10= 2000lbs!!). That's why they break. It is the best hammock I've ever used, best sleeping position for me, especially on the diagonal.

    Water seepage hasn't been problem so far. As for the "flip" or vertical it only happened once with a slippery reflectix pad. I adjust for some sag,(not as much as a gathered end hammock) which has eliminated going "vertical" for me. I don't tie the corners out to stabilize it. Hanging it too tight makes it unstable. I found the diagonal lay to be really comfortable. it allows my knees to bend down a little, eliminating hyper extension. I've slept on my back and side with no problems for a week. My z-lite pad really grips the hammock and my bag for a non-slip night. Even without the z-lite my bag stays put on the hammock. I'm going to make a better video with some good audio in a week or two.

    It just needed some goretex patches to plug two or three small holes. Now its water tight. My perspiration passes through my sleeping bag and through the bivy, collecting in my z-lite pad. Bivy and sleeping bag stay dry. I slept in it for a week in my Lawson hammock. I sleep with the bivy hood folded inside over my chest. Zipping it up is real easy flat on the ground. In a hammock it's more stubborn with the sag angle bunching the zipper.
