Nuts about the rendition Hendrix recorded I'm 69 this was a treat
@garyflannery27105 күн бұрын
Considering I was born in 1965 too young to be a hippie. The only recording I've ever heard was from Jimi Hendrix. And I've always loved it. Hearing this for the first time ever at the age of 58. I can say I like this original recording just as well. Thank you for posting this on KZread.

This is fantastic! Answers (maybe) me something I was curious about for a while. Taj Mahal does a song that's on an old album I lost long ago, "Johnny You're Too Bad". It's in a Reggae feel, and he makes it sound Jamaican. On the record, at least, and other versions by him and many other people are all different styles. The story is very much the same as "Hey Joe", just including that he's a local bad guy (we don't know about Joe) and has always been making trouble. The gun and the woman are the last straw, the sheriff is after him now. He "runs to the rock of rescue, but there will be no rock." I take that as meaning nobody down here or up there is going to give him a break. Joe runs, but no mention of rocks. However, somehow I link this as Joe being caught and accused of shooting a deputy, amongst everything else. But Joe, or Johnny, or both maintain they never shot no deputy, but did happen to take down the sheriff. Well, of course, this is all in my head, along with a lot of other strange conjecture, but I liked the similarities and the feeling they were the same story told from different cultures. And we all know how music and lyrics chase themselves around in circles over the centuries! I guess Mr. Clapton and /or Bob Marley really don't have a solid connection, but it does sort of end the story. After all, we never really know what's become of Joe & Johnny... Sorry, next...

Well, that was something, I find the lack of music aside from the opening to be a bit unnerving, like nothing's telling me how I should think about what I'm seeing. It is a bit amazing how far Danny Antonucci went from here.

It's one of the most interesting aspects of the song. I seems to me that its intentional, but I've never been able to decipher exactly what he's saying. It sort of sounds like he's say "Got a loaded gun, gun", but I don't know. Whatever he says it's really effective and dramatic. It's a shame it's one of the elements the didn't carry over to any of the cover versions.

I wonder why people who recorded this song later left most of lyrics it out. I had no idea how many lyrics there were to this song and the story it tells. This version is far superior to anything recorded later.
