    PFC Samuel Tony Hill, Co C, 25 Infantry Div, Vietnam, KIA May 31, 1968. He was 21. He was one of my many cousins from Gastonia, NC. His father, Samuel Ervin Hill, a WWII vet, died of cancer eleven years later at the age of 54. He never got over losing his only son. My father served in the Army during the Korean War, and then joined the Navy, then served 16 years in the USAF. We were stationed at Seymour Johnson AFB in Goldsboro, NC when my mother told me Tony was MIA. A week later she told me they recovered his body.

    Hi.. Hope you can help, I just bought a used Ultimaker 2+ with single extruder. this is my first 3D printer and i want to learn. Your videos are great but I can't replicate because I only have one extruder. for example, i would love to 3D print a keychain with 2 colors like you did earlier.. my question is: if i print the outer piece with hollow letters and then change the filament and print the letters separately, any advice you have for me to make sure when i assemble the piece, the letters fit the hole perfectly (snugged)? and is there a section in your playlists that caters to those of us who have single extruder printers 🙂 .. Love your videos again .. Thanks ..

    I've been encountering a odd glitch, when I group a imported shape to something, occasionally it adds weird shapes around it and they won't go away unless I use hole. Its really inconvenient. I figured since you have a lot of experience you'd know how to fix it. Thanks.

  • @HLModTech
    @HLModTech3 күн бұрын

    It is really not something that can be fixed. Tinkercad is interpreting the imported shape... and simplifying it to work with the Tinkercad geometry engine. Trimming those glitches is how we get rid of them. It is not perfect. If can figure out a way to make it from scratch it is always a better gig. kzread.info/dash/bejne/X51tpJptfrfXcZc.html

    I appreciate this. I usually can get some reasonable fitment by turning scale down to off or 0.1, selecting the piece I want to shrink, hold down shift and drag down piece uniformly. You can get away with this a little bit but any big reduction on a non-symmetrical shape, the method you’ve shown is significantly better as scaling uniformly too much starts to distort. I’ve also spilt each letter into separate pieces and scaled. Again your method is way better, the way I’ve done it is from lack of knowledge and “beating” things into submission, lol.

  • @HLModTech
    @HLModTech3 күн бұрын

    =) I was fiddling around with Alt+Shift for several hrs trying to get a way that was consistent. =) One time it would.. the next time it was jinky. I really wanted to keep it all in Tinkercad, but finally gave in. Having Inkscape as part of the project really ends up adding another tool to our belt that can be useful. Thanks tons for the note!

  • @bowieinc
    @bowieinc3 күн бұрын

    @@HLModTech one thing I do is duplicating then selection one, switch to negative, alt shift, reduce size uniformly to make walls the desired thickness, hit L and center all directions then drag z up before competing boolean operation. If I need to adjust or “orbit” around an irregular object, I’ll create a giant skinny donut big enough where it’s basically off screen and center my part to it. Then if I select what I want to orbit along with big donut, it will orbit correctly around the irregular object. You can do this vertically as well or any way you need to orbit. Probably way easier ways to do it but again, I have no idea what I’m doing, just have messed with tinkercad for years enough to make it comply! lol oh, one other tip I just thought of. If you need to measure inside an object, I’ll hit w create a work plane, set a box then w again and create a work plane on other side and set a box. Then stretch the two boxes together, select both and it will give exactly measurement of the combined boxes which is the measurement for the interior of wanted to measure. This is really helpful when adjusting clearance to get parts to slide into each other. If I want to set an object exactly level with another object, I’ll create a work plane on the object, set a box then create a work plane on the bottom of the box, then anything you drop D will be on the exact level you originally set your work plane on. Sorry for rambling, but your videos have reignited my interest in what can be done with Tinkercad. The fun for me is figuring out what can be done!

    =) Great tips! zero pts lost 4 rambling. = ) I have to edit the heck out of myself to get things short and sweet. Totally speak ur language and dig that you use "brute force" at times to get the results you want. I have too, but try to find ways that make sense for "normal" peeps vs my guess and check nature. Cool trick on the combined boxes. Will explore and thanks again for all the info!!!

    Have you tried the Image to Keychain tool in the MakerWorld MakerLab to convert an image to an SVG file? It has some nice processing tweaks like keep or remove background and the ability to map colors to nothing so the areas with that color are removed. I used it to make an SVG file from a screenshot of text, didn’t want to use a random website to convert. To get the SVG file I downloaded the resultant 3mf file, unzipped it (3mf is just a renamed zip file), and poked around inside to find which folder had the SVG. It was easier to do than I make it sound. 🤣
