    How long did it take to learn this behemoth track?

  • @simeracerhead3670
    @simeracerhead36704 ай бұрын

    Quite a bit of time! I first laid eyes on this track in around September 2022 and have done 3 events there since, with probably 10-20 hours practicing for each one. Despite that, it was only during this latest event that I felt I had learned the track completely. The final 1/3 of the circuit is particularly hard to learn because there are many corners that look similar.

    We're back to trying to take the blame off each other😂. I meant the final tight right hander at Longford (sort of a hairpin) where I went off then bounced back onto the track and nearly collected you. That was 18 months ago now and my first online race. Since then we've had 5 seasons of 1954 (1+4) plus a few visits to 1967. Amazing stuff.

    You missed the excitement from about lap 19. The epic battle not to be last of the finishers! More seriously, I'm broadly in agreement with your thinking about next year. I'll definitely have to start picking and choosing between so many races. It's not just the time commitment on the day, it's the practicing and set-up work needed between. Unfortunately, I'm so far off the Franek's and the Nico's when it comes to jumping into a car, learning a track and getting a set up in an hour or less! And yes it would be a real shame if we lost the 1954 cars. But 8 to 10 races would be very appealing.

    I feel sorry seeing your race and can understand your frustration - but don't be so hard on yourself! Some days just don't work out and I am sure you are more lucky next time. Possibly wet conditions will be very tricky in the tail-happy OSCA! From watching your race, I had the feeling you were running quite long gears - did you try 1 click shorter? For me this single change was worth about 1-1.5 seconds on a quali lap and 0.5-1 seconds on race pace (lifting needed to preserve the engine at top speed).

  • @simeracerhead3670
    @simeracerhead36708 ай бұрын

    Thanks! Yes upon reflection I’m content to get a podium! My gearing was the only feasible ratio, the next step lower is too short. Honestly the track was the least suitable for my car. I think we will have some better racing at Goodwood!

    I think it might have been me in the yellow taxi during practice. I'd jumped in the C-Type by mistake. It was tempting once we knew there was no handicap. But it was too late to set it up or get used to it. As to the track, this is the first one I haven't grown to like. It was just too frustrating. You need Matt Munro 'Days like these' playing in the background (copyright strike accepted). Though at only 3 minutes long, it's a bit repetitive around the whole lap. As to the escape button, again really bad luck. Not your fault with the other cars. These things happen in racing and you were trying to 'escape.' I told you about my similar experience at Dundrod. I know it's our worst fear - adversely affecting other people's race ☹️. On the plus side, quick thinking to use task manager to quit. And good point about checking the keyboard battery.
