Paul I have a question. Just ordered an H/07. And I'm thinking about tuning it down significantly so I can essentially have 8 string lows. Do you recommend this and any tips? I've seen a couple youtube videos of guys doing it but since I've never done it before I'm not sure about any cons (other than not having as high of a note register)
@PaulOuzounov3 ай бұрын
Hey man! I think so long as your strings will fit you absolutely can do this. That being said, I would only do this if I had 2 guitars as I think it's really important to have a 'regular' guitar as well as a low tuned beast fiddle. In terms of cons, I think you can expect your lowest notes to potentially sound flubby only because you'd have to use quite a thick string, but knowing Aristides the way I do I think it'll be alright. Mike Stringer (Spiritbox) tunes to drop F# on his 7 strings, so I think that would work. E starts to get a bit heinous but you need to test out strings. Pickups will also of course make a difference; however they can only do so much to give you attack and chug as thick strings make for that flub after all.

You're just the best guy, Paul. I've already found a method for finding "my tone" on any given amp years ago, but this is pure gold. I never looked at pickups this way (neck for dialing in bass/depth, bridge for dialing in mids/highs/presence). I might try this with my current sound and see where I land. With most amp or amp sims I found an awesome to usable tone with gain between 4 and 10 (depending on how "gain-y" that amp is), bass between 3 and 6, mids between 4 and 7, highs between 5 and 8, presence between 6 and 8. All depends how much the pickups and the amp and the cab and maybe pedals put accents on certain frequencies. If everything is already incredibly bass-loaded, I might even turn the bass on the amp down to 0 (once had a Line6 plugin amp, where I had to do this, because everything else felt to bassy; quickly switched to another amp in that plugin). So far I never had an amp with a depth knob, so no idea how I'd dial that one in. As always, an incredible video. Hope you are well, buddy.
