  Thanks for your query. It’s fine to take kids. But now with setting of summer it will be totally dry and not worth visiting this place. Better to visit during monsoon season. Also I understand off late forest department has restricted entry of people inside this forest area. So please be aware of latest conditions before making your visit. Thanks

  Muzrai department Board ( @3.42) says : Built by Rajarshi Nalvadi Krishna Raja Wadiyar ! A Board on the top of the ZTemple says ( @3.48) it was built in 1828 by Rajarshi Mummadi Krsihnaraja Wadiyar ! Very unfortunate they don\t know the correct history of the lake and the Temple ! Actually there is an inscription in the temple giving all the details:| On a slab set up close to the right varanda of mukha-mantapa of the Mahalingesvara temple Krishna -Bhupati Be it well, On Saturday , the 10Th day of the dark fortnight of Jyestha, in the year 1750 of the shalivahana saka and Sarvadhari samvatsara ( 7th June 1828 A.D.) during the karakataka -lagna , on an auspicious day, Lingajammanni of Krsihna vilasa, lawfull wife of Sri. Krsihnaraja vodeya, lord of the excellent city of Mahisur, King of kings, Maharaja, heroic king , got constructed this temple with golden finial and vimana and enclosure in order to please the goddess Chamundesvari and set up a linga named Mahalingesvara, with goddess lingamba named after us and also constructed a new tank to the south of the temple named Lingambudhi with a grove and in order to provide for daily services , food offerings and illumination directed the Mahisur Taluk authorities through a Royal order of our king, to grant a plot of government land below this tank yielding an annual revenue of 250 kanthirayi varahas free of imposts to be respected by all. || The Kings whether be my own descendants or descendants of other kings who always protect my charities intent on dharmas | I bow to their lotus feet with my head ||shree||

  Please visit a temple near mandya district in agrahara bachahalli Karnataka dedicated to 'garuda lenkas'. Garuda lenkas were bodyguards of hoysala kings who dedicated their lives to their kings in such a way that if the king died they would die with him.
