I saw them in Dallas in 1998. They were compelled by a frothing crowd to play two encores. When they came out for the second encore, Yow said something to the effect of “Now come one, you really wanna stand around and watch a bunch of old farts keep playing?” Twenty some years later, the answer is still yes. YES we want to stand and watch these old farts play music! Such an incredible band and live act. Can’t wait til they’re back on tour this fall.

(EDIT: When I wrote this I misread the description & thought it said DOWN was everyone’s least favorite, I didn’t see that it was the bands least favorite. Still a shame bc it’s an amazing album!) Per the description of this video DOWN is my 2nd favorite tJL album right after LIAR. LIAR is perfection. DOWN is underrated as fuck & has Duane’s best guitar work to-date. Especially his solos on that record, it’s phenomenal. Everyone loves GOAT, but personally I think it’s a bit overrated. It’s still amazing! Like I who doesn’t love Mouthbreather & Nub & Monkey Trick? I think side B of GOAT is a little lackluster (keep in mind tJL is my second favorite band behind The Melvins). I was always under the impression that BLUE was their least favorite record by most fans. I like it, but I like all their albums, I just like some more than others.

Fave records ? I mean probably none , all are them building to something. I saw Head tour , for me that’s it and that’s the one. Anyone that knocks Down is crazy , it’s a beautiful record. Liar is the one that blew it out , Goat is the one I came back to , to love. If your aren’t over 50 , you missed the highlights. Don stepped outside ‘

Sweet jesus, what a sound. It’s outstanding camera work, too,, especially for a single camera production - somebody sure as hell knows where to put the camera and how to frame up a shot. Absolutely nailed this band.

Great historical value! This five-track demo could be the first recording of the group that would soon become The Legendary Shack Shakers. Some songs will be featured in their first albums: Shakerag Holler will be used in the albums J.D.'s Tasteless Chill Tonic and Cockadoodledon't; Love Bug Crawl in Hunkerdown; Chicken Bone Bikin' in J.D.'s Tasteless Chill Tonic under the title Chicken Bone Baby.

Saw them many years ago with the Rev. Horton Heat and Weezer. They were phenomenal especially J.D. ! Love all that roots Americana of rockabilly, country(blues), punk spirit and all. Glad they have another cd on Alternative Tentacles and hope to catch them live soon.

I saw a couple of shows on that tour with The Rev. That was a cool double bill. At the Newport, KY show, the Shaker’s were fantastic but the Rev phoned it in that night. Too much to ask that both bands be at their best.
