Black Girls Texting Podcast

Chelsea Pinky, Glynn Pogue and Sade Parham are the hosts of Black Girls Texting; a 1-hour dialogue unpacking conversations held in their group chat-a space they consider the most modern medium for unfiltered exchanges between girlfriends in real time.

The straight forward simplicity of the title is a play on the idea that, yes, Black girls can make magic but, as human beings, we also do the everyday; Black Girls Work, Black Girls Cook, Black Girls Laugh, Black Girls Travel, Black Girls Live, Black Girls Text.

Past episodes have tackled gentrification, pop culture, sex positivity, colorism and fatherhood in the Black community and have featured amazing guests such as Lena Waithe, Janelle Monae, Amanda Seales and more bad ass Black women!

    I really enjoyed this discussion with black women, whether from America or the Caribbean Islands. I appreciate the discussion on reparations. The issue is black oppression = white dominance around the globe 🌎. When black people gain economic freedom across the board, it threatens white supremacy. It's not the interest of the dominant society to bridge the gap between white and blacks around the globe.

    Color does not determine if black women get married. This woman says some good things but that is BS. Its a womans attitude and cooperation without ego that determines if she gets married. Most men are not that shallow. Black men love black woman. And slavery 400 years ago has nothing to do with how people act today. People know right from wrong they just choose to do wrong and make bad choices from their illusionary expectations and choices. And this nation hates black men. Period and black women are making things worse for us and themselves by giving in and taking the White supreminst bait. Twerking all over the damn place and saying there aint no good men. And most of yall So called "educated" women who studied one subject think yall are better than men wotking a regular blue collar job. Man STOP the cap women. OMG!!! What I heard here was absolutely ridiculous. I heard everything under the sun, except for ACCOUNTABILITY. It's ALWAYS Something, or someone else's fault on why BW find themselves in the state their In. It's simple. BW chose Zaddy government over their men. I saw the damage it caused in my own family. Welfare and entitlement programs destroyed the nuclear family. BM have not had a VOICE until now, and we are speaking loudly. BW for decades have sided with WS and the narrative that BM ain't ish. Now, they act is if they don't know why they are the least married and the most divorced. The lies that are continually told by our elders are a part of the problem. Until they start being honest to themselves. BLK male and female relations will continue to IMPLODE. BM are tired and have moved on. We're going where we are celebrated and appreciated and not just tolerated. Sorry, but the damage is irreparable at this point. BW will have to lie in the beds they have made. It's a hard pill to swallow, but it is what it is.

    I think one key point that liberal women seem to overlook or ignore - if you eject patriarchy out of marriage the incentive for men (of any race) to marry is greatly reduced. This focus on redefining manhood and masculinity is not an alluring argument for most men.

    She contradicts herself a few times. If Systemic oppression is hindering black wealth and thus, black love, how could the wealthy black men be marrying women of lighter skin tone or other races? When polyamory was discussed, she said some men cant afford monogamy (they cant afford 1 relationship but can afford multiple??) She hinted at the colorism and featurism issues but that's the truth. BM dont like how most of us look. They dont like our 4c hair, big noses, dark eyes, etc. Their dream is a community of Westley Snipes and Mariah Carey's. I also wish she'd pulled the statistics of BM interracial marriage rates, which show that those relationships don't last either

    2/2: Dr. Stewart is pre-occupied with her perception that America "doesn't love black people," and apparently she thinks blacks lack the agency to advance because of that. Worrying about whether or how much America loves blacks -- as if there's any way to quantify that -- was clearly not a priority for blacks living under legalized racial discrimination. They had much bigger priorities and had to focus on fighting _real_ disenfranchisements. Contrast that with those in the modern era who make a living decrying their systemic mistreatment and lamenting how Jim Crow's still alive and well to eager audiences who soak up that message. It seems totally lost on the listeners that many of these "oppressed" societal whipping boys make mad dollars per lecture. Can I have some of _that_ “victimhood,” pretty please? 🤣 Even in a bleak racial climate, which a black American such as myself born in the 1970s can barely even fathom, blacks able to greatly increase their high school and college graduation rates, particularly during the 1940s and '50s. They accomplished that to such an extent that the collective household income for people in that demographic rose sharply. That should not be little-known history, especially for young blacks, who are far too often fed inaccurate and defeatist spin about an intractably racist America. Or make that AmeriKKKa to use the cartoonishly militant spelling. Yes, terrible acts of racism occurred back then under Jim Crow. It wouldn't dare deny that. It's ludicrous though to even suggest that in 20-flippin'-24 the racial climate is still the same, leaving blacks hopeless without major governmental intervention. Get outta here. The grim reality is that these days, as has been the case for decades, a black murder victim in America is far more likely to meet that fate at the hands of another black person that from a white person. And in places such as Chicago and St. Louis, just to name a couple, violent crime among blacks is an awful scourge. It does the supposedly omnipresent white supremacists' work for them. Plus, contrary to popular belief, thanks larger to media hype and slanted news coverage, blacks are no more likely to be killed by police than whites in America, according to a recent study by black Harvard professor Roland Fryer. He has reported being shocked by his and his research team's own findings. Blacks being killed by police is a sexier topic to the media that whites meeting the same fate, such as the largely ignored Tony Timpah, who was killed in a way similar to George Floyd. It allows news outlets to attract viewers and readers by painting a sensational picture of American apartheid. That's part of the reason people get riled up about phantom menaces, which seems to be Dr. Stewart's method of selling her book. And like it or not, it has been the case for quite a while that a white American more likely to be killed by a black person than the other way around. It's not even close, despite the fact that whites in our country outnumber blacks about 5 to 1. But of course people with Dr. Stewart's mentality blame racism for leaving blacks destitute and desperate, therefore turning to crime as a means of income. We're at a standstill when it comes to improving our individual and collective situation, they'd argue, until we get some outpouring of love from the U.S. government The excuses and nonsensical reasoning just never ends for them. Along with the usual racial victimology, Dr. Stewart makes hackneyed claims of women being oppressed by "the patriarchy" and anti-scientific absurdities about gender as a mere social construct. Actually American women, including black women, are overall on par with or _surpassing_ men in various measures of success. And miss me with the income-gap fallacies, which fail to take into account the disparate career *choices* men and women make. By the way, dangerous jobs tend to come with much compensation, and men represent around 95% of occupational deaths each year. Something tells me that women, even the most gender-non-conforming, wouldn't care to bridge that gap and risking increasing the proportion of women among jog-related deaths from a paltry 5%. So much for all that Diversity, Equity and Inclusion we keep hearing about, eh? 🤷🏽‍♂ In Dr. Stewart we have one of many successful blacks and accomplished women who sells an inaccurate doomsday message to members of both groups. It'd be nice if people like her would encourage others to put in the work to forge ahead in life and tell others how they did it rather than wallowing in self-pity. But apparently she feels the need to sell the snake oil of perpetual victimhood and the racist and sexist dragons that blacks must slay in order to make it. People who think the way she does must think that mindset makes their own achievements look more impressive than they'd otherwise seem. It also allows them to play Pied Piper to blacks and women, as if they can lead the supposedly downtrodden class to the Promised Land. Best of luck to anyone who follows them down the road to nowhere. I'm glad to know that growing numbers of blacks and women are abandoning that path.

  • @JeffTheGent
    @JeffTheGentАй бұрын

    1/2: WOW! Where do I begin? What on Earth is Dr. Stewart talking about?! 🤦🏽‍♂ Let me state up front that my criticism is all for her, not BGT for giving her a forum. I can respectfully agree to disagree with those who have different beliefs from myself, including the hosts of this podcast. I'm a free-speech absolutist, so I support the right of people with various viewpoints to express themselves, regardless of whether I agree with them. I happen to find Dr. Stewart's message counterproductive and sorely detached from reality. I'm actually glad in a way that she went as far as she did here with her polemic. Those who've been susceptible to that kind of extremism, particularly blacks, need to hear how off the rails and off-base it is. And wow, is she ever a perfect example. Her deeply flawed outlook is the reason we're seeing a significant shift among blacks away from Dr. Stewart and her kindreds' "all our problems are because of slavery and racism" beliefs. Many of us long ago wised up to that racket, and increasing numbers of blacks seem to have grown tired of the propaganda that tells us how helpless and hopeless we are. It's super important to note that black Americans were very quick to get married and maintain strong family structures after the end of slavery in America. In fact, black women were more likely to be married than white women as recently as the 1950s. So the same old blaming of slavery for a trend that began around the 1960s is a very tough sell. Dr. Stewart's argument that society's so-called "forbidden black love" prevents masses of blacks from becoming "coupled as adults" and building relationships is absurd and downright pathetic. Prioritizing family, moral values and certainly education allowed the poverty rate for black Americans to plummet from around 80% to 40% between 1940 and 1960, long before "diversity" and other such buzz words became all the rage. Blacks during that time built thriving communities in such places as Tuskegee, Alabama, where native son and famous musician Lionel Richie, born in 1949, fondly recalls there being black doctors, lawyers, educators, etc., during his childhood. Solid family units are super helpful in avoiding poverty. In fact, black married couples today have household incomes comparable to white married couples. Whatever disparity does exist between them nearly disappears when one accounts for the fact that a significant percentage of blacks live in areas with lower costs of living. So if the prevalence of white supremacy, that trusty argument for people like Dr. Stewart, is supposed to be keeping blacks down, white supremacists sure are sleeping on the job. 🤷🏽‍♂ More fun with the doc in Part 2 of my comment. 😃

    Black girls aren’t getting married because the media has gloried a bad boy with hood swag as the ideal man to be with in the black community! Essentially an obvious player or bad boy is the man black women prefer to have sex with, date, and marry! Unfortunately the black men who actually want to commit and build families are often considered lame because they lack the hood swag! So cultural conditioning has caused black women to value men who aren’t family type men!
