The video conveniently did not mention Caterpillar clever business move by getting out of the on highway trucking engine business. Must have saved them $ billions of R and D and they can always copy and get back in at a future date. They can now of course thumb their noses at places like Calif. especially seeing the failure of electric power. Go ahead, make a law mandating all your cars and trucks to be electric by say 2030? and see what will happen to your economy. The lesson would be forced down the Calif. legislature's throats, you cannot legislate tech advances, things will be invented when they get invented. Electrics are of course not ready for prime time.

Shame on the author for completely missing how the Cat was invented for the LADWP. It was the solution to construction problems in the long deep sandy Antelope Valley section. This interesting (free pdf) scan of the book published after the project's completion provides in-depth detail. Interesting side note: Walt Disney's father was a foreman on the aqueduct. scvhistory.com/scvhistory/laaqueductreport1916.pdf

  • @tonylam9548

Not BS his plans would eventually go on paper. Another inventor , Bill Lear worked just like that. He's got a problem with his airplane , he would make a sketch and hand the old part and sketch to the machine shop foreman, in a few hours, he would get a new part and he test it. It drove the engineers nuts and they have to keep up with changing records , Lear went through a lot of engineers.

Internal combustion engines were finished the day emission standards were brought in and Cat knows all about its. Friend of mine perfected a steamer the lowest emission engine in the world. Took it to America, demonstrated it to Senators from Washington and vehicle builders successfully. All their attempts at steam cost millions and were lemons. His little engine in an old Falcon was faultless and on the road for I think around A.U.$60k.. Suddenly America could do without a low emission engine and successive govts. have changed the goal posts to suit the engine builders. I think the American public were cheated of having cleaner air. As for Cat they don't have to improve their product. They are just like trams going gown the same old track. The Australian govt. don't have the old master to kick around now so enjoy the pollution.

The size of that guy in front of that D11 is so absurdly shrunk and what you did here is so dishonest its a profound example of CLICK BAIT!
