Did you know that each year, 108 billion pounds of food is wasted in the United States? That equates to more than $408 billion in food - nearly 40% of all food in America - thrown away each year. With food prices rising, it is more important now than ever to make sure you every penny out of your food budget. Here I will share tips, tricks, and anecdotes of my quest to keep food out of the landfill.

FYI, the freezer method turned out to be better, baking them briefly took away a lot of the flavor.

I love that I’m not the only one who does this. I don’t like leftover French fries except to use them for hash browns. It should be said though that to do this you need to do it the next day before they get too hard sitting in the fridge (and should be added last as you did in this video). I have sensitive teeth and find them too crunch otherwise. Great video!

As a single person I also split up packs of meat to freeze for “single size” portions. I’ve usually wrapped the individual portions in Saran/cling wrap then put in freezer bags. Is there is a reason you prefer to use tin/aluminum foil instead? I’m genuinely asking because if it’s better I may try it going forward.

I find that plastic wrap doesn't protect as well against freezer burn. Also, you can defrost in oven right from the freezer.

I shared this with my grown daughter. She doesn’t like potatoes and when we have ‘family get together meals’ she usually will make mashed potatoes for us and mashed cauliflower for her so I thought she’d really enjoy this. Thanks so much for the idea!

All such good hints . It’s very hard not to waste when you’re by yourself. Some of these I do already but the flattening of the chicken is a good one. Thank you💐
