Wellington's peninsula army was the most professional body of men of its time. There are numerous contemporary accounts by ordinary soldiers of life in the army. Probably the best is the diary of Rifleman Harris. I always loved that there he was in the Sharpe adventures.

Have just loved this ,for me, timeless great since its release, just a few weeks' ago. Play different versions of it frequently. Charlie and Julian may be a little tired of playing this- don't be. Ralph McTell plays Streets each concert, James Taylor, Jackson Browne and others still perform their classics, which must be about 50 years' new, audiences still want to hear this great music. Just keep loving Pilot as much as your youthful, original, fans love hearing you play it 🎉.

It's a terrible fate for an Englishman to be at the tailend of a moribund empire. Why Lord , why? Why couldn't they lord it over the globe for all time and indefinitely. The world would have been the better for it had they prevailed for all eternity.

The greatest piano box player on this planet and you'd be very hard pushed to find a composer of slow airs that can beat Phil, emotion flowing from each note.

fabulous song even though the war it is about was fought with us on the wrong side. After Napoleon's defeat they wouldn't let him land on British soil because he was so popular with the masses. This in no way decries the courage and fortitude of our troops.
