As a fan of the orginal and who saw the remake - yes thats a good comparison - but UNCLE didn't exist in the re-make - I just wish they'd had the HQ - the Badges - the Music - got into the new mission as 'friendly' adverseries. and had the East German introduction and the first fight between Kuryakin and Solo in England as flash backs to understand their initial feelings.

I actually really liked the movie until I went back and re-watched the original episodes that I had not seen since I was a child and originally watched them. When I first saw the movie, I saw it as a kind of prequel.....I then re-watched the show and the same love of the show came over me and I realized how "off the mark" the movie was in it's depiction of the original and beloved characters. I agree totally with George Senda who objected to Armie Hammer's interpretation of Illya. He came off as a kind of brute with none of the likeable qualities that David McCallum put into the character. Oddly.....Armie Hammer was the only cast member who had taken the time to watch the original show. I can't imagine why he played it so differently. They should also have looked for someone who looked at least a little bit more like the Illya we all loved. That being said....I do like the movie for what it's worth, but wish that they had made it more similar. When I think Man from Uncle....I think Robert Vaughn and David McCallum....not the people from the movie.

I also hope they will use the same exact UNCLE badges they used in UNCLE's second season!!! Oh yes! They should start the movie by displaying the Old UNCLE logo!!! Some things are sacred and therefore should remain the same!!! LOL!!!

Dear Bloke, thanks so much for sharing this! Yes, the alternate 4th season theme would have signaled style and adventure with a twist, again with tongue firmly planted in cheek. It’s daring and risk-taking. Hearing the soprano clarinet cry out would have made my 16-year old self jump out of the chair in anticipation of something new and unexpected, and that's what a good insignia and opening theme should do. Of course it would have been completely out-of-step with the grim and humorless tone of the 4th season stories, and had to be replaced, but I prefer to imagine a 4th season that instead matched the promise of Gerald Fried's imagination here. Even at 16, on the debut of Season 4 in September 1967, the Robert Armbruster arrangement that was used shocked me as a step backwards, competent and safe, but disappointingly flat and lifeless. It felt like death, which the entire approach proved to be. I remember asking Mr. Fried at The Golden Anniversary Affair weekend in 2014 how he approached his first UNCLE score on "Alexander the Greater" and sharing how much the opening just grabbed my attention, and he grinned and said something like, "Yeah, it was my first one (for UNCLE) and you wanna make a statement!" Thanks again for sharing this. Can I ask how on earth did you find it?
@TheBlokeFromUNCLE7 жыл бұрын
I like it too, to be honest, despite a few misgivings (I think it would work better without the "duh-duh duh-duh" interruptions!), and yes I agree that the fourth season theme they used was dull; it was too workmanlike, without a lot of imagination put into it. Not something you can accuse the Fried version of lacking. I found the music on a website over a decade ago (I can't remember the site) that linked to all the different versions of the theme, including the long "Five Daughters" version of the Season Three tune which I'd not heard before as the two-parters were not repeated in the UK. This was amongst them, and is a slightly different version to the long, end-title version released on CD.

Robert Vaughn hated water episodes and had a difficult time with the Iowa Scuba Affair.But the problem I had with the film is the characterization of Ilya who comes off as a bully and not sympathetic at all.The scenes may be an exact copy of what was done in MFU but it's how it was done and the Boys did it better and can't be equaled.Even so, good job on this video to show the parallels.
