Welcome to the "NLK Media" channel. I review HAM and CB radios, camera and retro computer hardware and accessories. I have a passion for anything 8 bit related (Commodore, ZX Spectrum) but also dabble in everything up to the more modern PC era. I also own an IBM AS400 and an iSeries. If its radio, camera or computing related then I am interested.

@3.21 If "Armageddon" happens nobody is going to care whether or not you have a licence.
Very true, the License allows you to have legal fun until then and learn how to get the most out of the radio. When the SHTF no one will care. All the best and thanks for watching and commenting. MJ7NLK
Nice video, thanks!
your most welcome, thanks for watching and commenting, all the best MJ7NLK

Wanting to order one, but: Can the Thunderpole be set to use American cb channels 1-40?
yes absolutely, the EU 40 is the same as the US 40. thanks for watching, all the best MJ7NLK
@@NLKMediaGroup Thanks for the info 73 K4EFW/"Iceman"/WSAS211
A question: in Export-Mode: where can I find the amateur radio frequencies?
All the frequencies are in band blocks A, B, C, etc split into blocks of 40 channels. All the best and thanks for watching MJ7NLK
Very helpful video! Thanks al lot!
Great video, just considering joining in with this hobby and gained a lot here.
Thank you for the feedback and glad the video has helped. Welcome to the world of HAM radio, I hope you enjoy, its lots of fun. All the best MJ7NLK
So, if you cut the wire? What happens? And if you cut that white wire and and move the wire to the next hole, what happens? Is it best to add a switch between the jumper wire? Should that be a hetter option to easily expand and change back to stock when needed? Awaits response. : )
Some President radios expand to a high power mode when the wire is cut and others expand when the wire is moved. The jumper enables export mode to open up the frequencies. So, you can expand the radio just by moving the jumper but to get more power the wire needs to be dealt with. Some people add a switch so this can be done easily and I have also seen modules being added which switch based on holding the PTT button at power on. The only problem with the Bill 2 is its size and finding somewhere to put a switch. All the best and thanks for watching MJ7NLK
Appreciate for the prompt response, So, for high power on this model you should? To get expanded frequency range alone you need to? And for both high power with expanded Frequencies we should..?
Should I move the jumper to the next and add a switch in the first jumper cable point?
@@sleshinepinki774 To get the expanded frequency range you just need to set the jumper. Moving the wire provides more power but only when the jumper has been set to expanded mode. So, moving the wire and then changing the jumper back to the standard position will revert the radio back to standard power as well. It is a three pin setup for the jumper. Bridging 1 and 2 puts the radio into standard mode. Bridging 2 and 3 puts the radio into Expanded mode. Pin 2 is common to both and you need to switch between 1 and 3. So, you will need a 3 way switch to switch between 2 and 1, 2 and 3. Hope this helps, all the best MJ7NLK
RTL-SDR v. 4 requires drivers (installed). Pi 4 with 4gb and Cubicsdr: it finds the RTL-SDR. Push the start button and everything goes away. Maybe 8gb Pi is necessary?
I have not tried running on a 4GB Pi, I only have the 8GB version. I had no issues at all when running on Pi OS, it worked a treat. Windows was a no-go due to the lack of arm USB support at the time but have not tried again on any newer builds. All the best and thanks for watching MJ7NLK
Can FM tx audio be adjusted in service menu please
I just bought one. I hope this will work just as well in the U.S.
As far as I am aware its the same radio sold worldwide. There is a US table in the menu which would also suggest that its the same radio. Please do let me know when your unit arrives so that I can update others when asked. All the best and thanks for commenting. MJ7NLK
EXTENDED Test/Service Mode (20 settings) Press and hold Mode + CTCSS/DCS then power on. Quickly press in sequence ANL/NB SCAN MON EMG. Select setting using channel buttons. Press PTT and adjust value using channel buttons.
Hi Musclosoft, thanks for the information, very helpful. Really handy to have power adjustment settings in the extended menu. All the best and thanks for commenting. MJ7NLK
You forgot the echo settings lol
ha ha, yes, some breakers just love maximum echo and the most annoying roger beep they can find in the menu. I really enjoyed using the CB-500 out on the road and Radioddity have a hit on their hands with this radio. All the best and thanks for watching. MJ7NLK
@NLKMediaGroup yup now they need a ssb version
That Barry sure has a Big Mike!
Great video, are you going to review the new President Washington as well?
its not available yet in my location. I am still waiting for the supplier to get them in. They say that they are coming soon but with President that can mean anything. Looking forward to getting my hands on one. All the best and thanks for wathcing MJ7NLK
@@NLKMediaGroup thanks, awesome job with your informative channel. Super
Hello, I have this walkie. What is the factory setting of the "FM mod" option?
Great video, thanks. 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching. All the best MJ7NLK
The power cable is a problem if you want to route in, then you have to cut it
Absolutely, I much prefer to have a plug like the President McKinley and President Richard have on the back. Not a big fan of fixed cables but almost all of the cheaper radios have them. All the best and thanks for watching MJ7NLK
I just bought this radio thanks to your review!
Your most welcome, its an amazing radio, I hope you enjoy using it. All the best and thanks for watching MJ7NLK
Video molto interessante
that user list is now over 700k .. how does this affect the radio? what should i do?
The latest user CSV file has 261,890 rows in it as of 24 Jun 2024. The radio supports 500k digital contacts so there is still a long way to go before hitting capacity. Download the CSV users file and import. I updated two of these radios a few weeks ago and had no issues doing this. All the best and thanks for watching. MJ7NLK
Still no luck? No 2nd part of this video?
Not yet, but there are things happening in the background, hang on a bit longer and more spectrum content will be coming soon. All the best and thanks for commenting. MJ7NLK
I have a question how to do it and whether it is possible to make the final frequency not 5khz but zero - it applies to Poland, e.g. 26560 mhz. Are cabals marked with alpha "holes"? can anyone help.
NLK Media the George II is also to be dethroned in just about a Month. President is bringing out a new King called the President Washington!! I am skipping the George II as I already have the President Lincoln and The President MCKinley so i go straight to the President Washington! The President Washington puts out 80 watts on SSB as the George puts out a lot less more. NLK Media I hope you get to make a video of the Washington soon! 73's!
We are all waiting for it to finally arrive. It looks like its a HAM version of the George 2 setup for 10 and 12 meter bands with some impressive power outputs. The George 2 is a lovely radio, one of the best, so am very excited for the release of the Washington. I can see them at the supplier but only marked as "comming soon" which can mean anything with Presidents track record. Hopefully they will become available soon. 73's MJ7NLK
By the way, i tested the helical antenna. It was resonant on EU channels but nowhere close on the UK channels. I keep my T-X on my desk. When conditions are good i can listen to the Superbowl on AM with the NRC on. Its one of the best CB receivers i have ever used.
It is such good value for money. I have just received my President Jerry which I need to review but need to review the Radioddity GD-88 first. It was fun playing with the Thunderpole, PNI and Jopix and discovering the differences. You really cant go wrong for the price and NRC is becoming a must have feature. Shame the Jerry doesn't have it. All the best MJ7NLK
Thanks for the Info, Cheers
Your most welcome, thanks for watching
The midland alan 42ds has the same car kit. But it has been found that using the antenna on that kit drops its power just like TX. So try the TX with the car one disconnected. Then plug the top one back in. I expect the power to return.
I have the JOPIX and it can be widebanded. Just by pressing the PTT and FUNC key as you turn it on.
It doesnt work on my version, I think this functionality must have been added in later software versions. Mine is V0 and PTT+FUNC does nothing. On the other radios running later software versions it works great. What is your software version (when resetting it flashes up) so that I can let others know which version its supported from? Thanks for watching MJ7NLK
@NLKMediaGroup My JOPIX handheld is version 01. I also have JOPIX GS-60, and that is widebanded by changing the jumper from 1-2 to 2-3. That extends the range to cover the 10m band and 12m band as well as the 11m CB band. It also gives you more options in the menus, one of which is three power output power settings, which is customisable up to a power level 15w FM. If you cut the link wire, this makes it amateur only.
@@NLKMediaGroup Further to my above comment, I wonder if you could flash the firmware to V01? If you find a way, it could be interesting to know. If so, someone could reverse engineer the firmware to make a custom version.
Band 6 may be Chinese marine band. They use a variety of channels on 27 MHz instead of VHF for some purposes.
Its a weird setting and the frequencies go all over the place. I am sure someone will let me know at some point but could be Chinese marine band but I suspect Thailand region. Would be nice to find out. All the best and thanks for watching
@@NLKMediaGroup I had a look and Thailand doesn't officially allow 27 MHz. Their legal CB system is on 245 MHz, but there may be illegal operation on 27 like most places.
Can you unscrew the battery with a coin?
Yes with some coins you can. I tried a two pence and that worked, a fifty pence also worked but a ten pence was too thick. So it depends on the coins in your pocket if you can get the door off without a screwdriver. Thanks for watching, all the best MJ7NLK
da possessore del randy mi chiedo perchè non implementare con la ssb tutti i portatili ?
Sono d'accordo, se solo uscissero con SSB sul Randy 3, sarebbe una radio fantastica. Grazie per aver guardato. Ti auguro il meglio. MJ7NLK I agree, if only they would come out with SSB on the Randy 3, would be an amazing radio. Thank you for watching. All the best. MJ7NLK
If Jopix did release a throbbing johnson, it'd probably only come in pink, and the antenna design would certainly by "unusual", perhaps with a red LED in the tip?
Its a great name for the next Jopix radio, lets hope they take the feedback on-board and surprise us with something more inventive than the CB514. All the best and thanks for watching.
@@NLKMediaGroupwhere did you get the map mat?? Much better than the usual green cutting mat. Also I've found the PNI H.T. CB on ebay for under £90 so as I dont have and CB ht's in my collection, I ordered 2!
The time out timer is altered by using the up/down buttons. The top side button is for turning the backlight on/off (Press and hold)
Hi Delboy, on my radios I cannot adjust the timeout timer. If I release the buttons it disappears immediately. If i keep them pressed and try the up/down or any other button it doesn't do anything at all. I must be missing a trick somewhere. The top side button we discovered later in the video re the back light with different implementations between radio versions. All the best and thanks for watching. MJ7NLK
@@NLKMediaGroup that's strange, the TOT can certainly be adjusted on my radio, it was one of the first things I found when looking for the hidden export menu.
Excellent video thanks for uploading! 👍
Thank you for the valued feedback and thanks for watching, all the best MJ7NLK
They need to make a handheld with SSB on it which would be awesome!
That would be amazing, a handheld with SSB at a reasonable price. I am sure they would sell extremely well if they came out with that. We can only hope that we see something on the market like this soon. All the best and thanks for watching.
Hi MJ7NLK. Thank you for another excellent upload. I do find your chanel tremendously interesting. I also love my president Randy III and will stick with it as it's a fantastic Radio. Kind regards rich :-)
Hi Rich, thank you for the valued feedback. I would post more frequently if I had more time available. Have just received the President Jerry and a Radioddity GD-88, just need to find the time to review them. All the best and thanks for watching.
Nice to see you on here again. Watching now. LOL
Hi CaribooOutlaw good to hear from you. I hope you enjoy the video. All the best and thanks for watching 🙂
@@NLKMediaGroup well being as I'm in Canada I'm sure I'll be getting the Thunderpole T-X as it has the Canadian table. A question though, can I still put food on the Canadian table or not? I usually put food on the table so I was wondering if it's still ok or not? Yes I have a weird sense of humour (Canadian humour hi hi) LOL
How do I turn the modulation level up,turning mic gain up I only get 60% audio output
How can i get one to promote for dem
Where can I get one of those little test tone generators? I could make use of one of those..
Its made by On-Stage and is a GTA7000 tuner/metronome. I think it was around £30 but it was a while ago now. All the best and thanks for watching
@@NLKMediaGroup Yeah looks like it's still available on Amazon - thanks for the info.
I'd be interested in what happens when you use the Radioddity mic on the other units you spoke of, does it give you other options inaccessible with the default mics with no 3rd button?
Very informative. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful and thanks for watching. All the best MJ7NLK
So umm. . . Does anybody anywhere actually care what the “legal” options are? Breaking the lawr breaking the lawr😅
Good point but I guess that depends on your own circumstances. If you have a ham radio license then you would be putting it at risk if you got caught. I do not know how active Offcom are with enforcement. The FCC are so strict on approved units in the USA and insist on the export mods being removed. However, the US breakers just run massive amplifiers. All the best and thanks for watching MJ7NLK
your channel is really a mine of very interesting information, thanks from France
Thank you for the feedback and I am glad you enjoy the content. All the best and thanks for watching. MJ7NLK
Can the CRT be moded in the same way for more power
Thank you for your videos, it is very complete and very well explained. I have a couple a question for you. 1) can it increase to 8.6 w in FM, and in AM how much can it go? 2) Which one would you recommend between the Bill 2 and the Martín? It is to install in a car and communicate with the other participants of a route, it is possible that I make some power modification.
Would you beleive it? President electronics is a french company ;-) their sub in Florida (Naples) only opened in 2016 !! A french company that sounds pretty american doesn’t it ?
YEP its the power mod that sell it to me.
There is much simpler solution: just cut the white wire in the middle and add a 25 Ohm resistor or four 100 Ohm resistor parallel without changing the jumper position 😁.
I cant see A2 menu
