    Hello! Between Day 10 and Day 11, you mentioned doing a quick drive from Rauðisandur to Reykjavik of 2 hours. Was that a typo ? Google maps says it's more like a 5 hours drive. I am trying to plan my West Coast itinerary and I noticed that big gap.

  • @adventurerice
    @adventurerice13 күн бұрын

    I may have misspoke in the video but the approximate 2 hours is from our campsite for the night which was just outside of the West Fjords (Búðardalur tjaldsvæði), to Reykjavik. I think it was about 3 hours to this campsite from Raudisandur which adds up to the 5 hours.

    Beautiful video! CONGRATULATIONS 🍾! i’ve been to Iceland once but based in Reykjavík, would you suggest staying in the West Fard or staying in the south I like to hike be in the Hot Springs and just generally out in nature one day in the capital is enough for me

  • @adventurerice
    @adventurerice26 күн бұрын

    Thank you for the amazing comments ! 😁😁 In terms of your questions, I think if you want the best hiking experiences, I would say the Highlands are amazing as there are few people and amazing views with untouched nature. However, it may not be as accessible. With that in mind comparing the West Fjords and the south, I would say stick to the south as it has more accessible and marked hiking trails as well as more known hot springs. The south east area of the island definitely has less crowds with amazing places to see as well. The West fjords are amazing as well but things are further apart and may not have as many marked/well known trails/hot springs. But it will definitely have less crowds. Hope that helped!

    On Safetravel website I read about 3 layers of clothing, being water+windproof. How necessary is this? Would a poncho on top of normal clothing be fine aswell, or what do you recommend? Personally I dont have waterproof shoes or waterproof jacket, so it'd be quite costly do buy this for a trip!

  • @adventurerice
    @adventurericeАй бұрын

    It depends on the locations you would like to visit but I would say it is required at the bare minimum a waterproof jacket. It does rain pretty often in Iceland and weather can change really quickly. So it is always a good call to have a waterproof layer as you wouldn't want to be caught in the rain halfway through a hike. In addition, alot of the waterfalls will soak you once you get close enough and you often need to get a lot closer to really take it all in. In regards to a poncho, I think they could be okay but with windy conditions it could be an issue. I think a wind proof layer would also be recommended as in some areas it was really really windy! Especially in higher areas such as hikes in the highlands. Lastly, I think waterproof boots are not an absolute need but again this depends on your activities, some areas I had to step through a small river, or areas got really muddy so I was glad to have them for that and for rain. I would also consider the fact that if you dont own waterproof footwear and they get soaked, you would need to have space to pack a back up piece of footwear. To note, the trip I took in this video we were really lucky to have clear skies for the majority of the trip which was really uncommon. So my first hand experience could be a little skewed.

    Do you need a permit to fly a drone?

  • @adventurerice
    @adventurericeАй бұрын

    In 2022 there were drone laws for drones greater than a specific weight. I had the DJI Mini 2 which was below this threshold so I did not require a permit. However, there are still areas in Iceland that did not permit them (visible by signs at the location saying "No Drones.") Things could have potentially changed after 2 years but I still believe if you have the smaller drones you don't need a permit.

    Beautiful video with such good scenic shots! Loved the music along with it. I'm planning to go to Iceland with my girlfriend at the end of October. Currently we aim to do a 'basic' route Reykjavík to Vík (including Golden Circle) and back by 2x2 rental and stay at guesthouses in towns. Anyone got any more tips where to go seeing as it's only a very small portion of Iceland? And how safe is it to drive like an hour or two in the dark after sunset? I got quite a couple waterfalls on my route right now, but I feel like it may get 'boring' if it's too many of them? These are: Gullfoss, Seljalandsfoss, Gljúfrabúi, Skógafoss and Kvernufoss. Are all worth visiting and are they diverse enough? And is it worth going to Silfra tectonic plates if we don't plan on snorkeling or diving?

  • @choosewisely616
    @choosewisely616Ай бұрын

    My daughter and I did that itinerary last November. So much of the driving was dark and it was fine. The only trouble I had was between Akranes and northern Reykjavik. The striping on the road was worn off yet the local traffic all knew where it was supposed to be and they were going much faster than I was comfortable with. Ultimately we were fine. I would highly recommend Thingvellir National Park. Walking between 2 continental plates is really cool. Be sure to make the drive to Diamond Beach as a day trip from Vik. We did the boats at Jökulsárlón too. It was our first time so close to icebergs. My photos are amazing. At Seljalandsfoss there is another falls to the left. Be sure to see them. We didn’t do the last bit up to those falls because of the weather. We were disappointed but will definitely see them next time. No matter what you do it will be amazing. So much of the experience is Iceland’s vastness, rugged beauty and isolation. Be sure to take time to be still and discover what you see, hear, feel. It gets in your soul. Start planning your next, next trip!

    @@choosewisely616 Hey! Thanks for your reply. Good to know that driving in the dark is ok. That sounds not great, but glad you were ok! I did read about Diamond Beach and watch a video but to me it doesn't look tooo appealing yet. But the glacier lake next to it is really great from what I can read so it'd basically be 2 things in 1 I guess. Only thing is that the drive is rather long back and forth and we only go 7 days. Not sure if its worth then. How highly would you recommend it? Is the drive from Vík to there also good? Might have to rethink if its a must see. Thanks in advance!

  • @choosewisely616
    @choosewisely616Ай бұрын

    @@futurism7131 I think it’s all about the experience you’re looking for. Diamond Beach was a ‘must do’ for us and it’s a very popular bus tour from Reykjavik. When we were there mid November, the beach was loaded with baby bergs. We live on a tropical island 🏝️ so it was the most opposite experience we could have and it was fantastic! It is 5 hours of driving plus stops/activities from Vik. The landscape is otherworldly and there are glaciers to see too. In November the sunset/sunrise was 2 hours long so the colors and changing sky was also a feature. We were balancing our daytime activities with aurora hunting at night so we didn’t make any of the stops along the way that day. One note about driving; most of the country is 2 lane undivided highway with no shoulder. Just be aware of oncoming cars and drive defensively, day or night. We did allow 2 nights in Vik so we could make that trip. I highly recommend it but if it’s not your thing then you will certainly have other fantastic experiences. Feel free to ask if you have any more questions.

    @@choosewisely616 Oh yeah that makes sense since it's like complete opposite for you! I tried to squeeze it in now by cutting a day off Reykjavík, seeing as it will be a great route to drive aswell. Do you have any tips for locations for watching the Aurora, like with scenic backgrounds, around Vík? Thanks for the tip about the driving. What clothing did you bring? Safetravel website says to wear 3 layers, no cotton, water and windproof etc. haha

  • @choosewisely616
    @choosewisely616Ай бұрын

    @@futurism7131 Don’t know how long you’re planning in Reykjavik but you can see it thoroughly in 2 solid days. If you are planning day trips then add to that. Sky Lagoon was wonderful, we went after dark which was really cool. The Aurora are weather dependent also and Vik didn’t work for us. Most people go to the beach (town side, not basalt pillars) or up to the church - you can’t miss it. We saw the Aurora in Reykholt on the Golden Circle. We stayed at the Blue Hotel which was really great. Fridheimar is right next door- hint, hint (book now if you are interested). We did dress just as recommended, plus hats, scarves and gloves. It hovered around freezing during our trip (November). Not wanting to invest a fortune in clothes we can’t wear much we found great things on eBay and Amazon. A 3-in-1 coat is a must. The outer layer can be zipped off on warmer, dry days. We purchased thermal layers from 32 Degrees. They are inexpensive but comfortable and did a great job. We also had fleece lined snow pants, snow (waterproof) leggings and my daughter wore jeans with a thermal layer on dry days only. The day you visit Skogafoss you will want to be completely waterproof. The spray will soak you 2-300 yards before you get up close. It’s totally visible from a distance but you don’t feel the power of it. We had loads of fun exploring the area while being very comfortable. The thing about jeans is they don’t dry quickly enough so wear them wisely. In case you haven’t found it yet the Iceland Meteorological Office website is the best resource for weather and Aurora forecasts. In Vik we ate at The Soup Company and Blackcrust Pizza. Both were super yummy. 😋

I did the Golden Circle and the southern coast, so my favorite part was Dyrhólaey. This time, we plan to go further into the Eastfjords. We wanted to stop at Diamond Beach and come back, but is there anything further north on that coast that you would say is a "must not miss"? Also, are there toll tunnels on the way? Thanks!

The yogurt in Iceland was super super tasty! In terms of stops to skip, we felt Gulfoss was definitely underwhelming as it was super busy and alot of the other waterfalls were just as cool with less people! Thanks for the video that is very much enjoyed. 3:00 mark: You faked-me out with this scene sequence, where I was sure you were headed to the Tsawwassen ferry terminal (crossing Lions Gate Bridge & driving through Stanley Park), but then you were at Horseshoe Bay terminal instead. 6:56 mark: The Tacofino lineup probably has more Instagrammers per-capita than any other piece of land on Vancouver Island, LOL. :) I enjoy these types of videos as I compare what people do in a compressed visit, to what I've done in my 55+ years on Vancouver Island. Probably the main difference as a resident is the ability to travel more slowly and in the quieter times of the year. But your video, and others like it, inspire me to consider that various places where you made effort to see in your short visit, but I still haven't seen myself. It lies along the coast from Þingeyri out along the peninsula and then into Arnarfjörður. You have to time your trip with the tide as parts of the road is in a tidal area. And I would use a better equpped vehicle than the campervan, even if it is a 4x4. The hike kicked my ass, but it was totally worth it. Vancouver and Vancouver Island was such a fun trip and I can't wait to go on more adventures with you and look back on them through your videos :) Keep up the great work boo!

    I had to stop the video and tell you you exceeded my expectations of being the narrator. Your voice was relatively calm, with a tone of confidence. I appreciate the narration. I liked that you and your friends climbed the mountain on the outskirts of Vancouver. I am sorry that you guys missed the ferry. I love Tacofino as there are Tacofinos in Victoria and Vancouver. As you mentioned, Sooke Potholes was my go-to spot when I resided in Victoria in my early 20s. You are right about Island Time. To me, Island time means slowing down and smelling the salty air. Lastly, subscribed.

    Thank you sooooo much for your comments!! 🥹 It really does mean so much to see someone else enjoy something I've worked hard on. Again can't thank you enough! Definitely made my day and hopefully I can put out other videos that you enjoy also!

    Happy I could help!!!! ❤️❤️ We used Lava car rental. But I mostly chose them since all other places were booked up but they were really good. I've heard good things about Cozy Campers as well.

    Did you have to make any reservations for the Reykjadalur hot spring or any of the other hiking areas?

  • @adventurerice
    @adventurerice3 ай бұрын

    @@reenibun9803 nope! Most things in the video don't need any reservations. The only things that did or I would recommend getting reservations for are any restaurants and man made hot springs/pools like Sky lagoon or Voks baths !
