  For 15 years the best outdoor walkie-talkie that works out of the box is Yaesu VX7. I have communicated with a repeater 102km away with stock antenna. I was at the 1600m mountain (Wysokogórskie Obserwatorium Meteorologiczne im. Tadeusza Hołdysa) repeater was in Wrocław. It is rigid, waterproof, can be unlocked to transmit from 40Mhz to 520Mhz and small enough to fit any pocket. Aftermarket prices are pretty low. Unfortunately VX-7 battery life is short and it does not have 6.25khz step (this is important for European PMR channels)

  The Quansheng K5/K6 is in NO WAY waterproof, Its a decent radio for the money with the amazing custom firmware available, dont expect the advertised power, all of the radios listed here grossly exaggerate the output power, the K5/K6 for example will do 3.5w on 446mhz and not the claimed 5w.

  I have tested that. it is NOT waterproof. But it can work at UHF with a repeater 70km away. used Nagoya 771 antenna (of course if it is a real one. Fake antennas overheat the radio and also they are deaf) and a simple wire counterweight.
