Wouldn't tryouts be so much better if everyone was anonymous with just numbers... That way it takes pressure off of the athletes, you can see their full potential, and nobody gets preferential treatment! And if you are a shortstop or outfielder, and have hopes of becoming a pitcher, you can showcase your talents and your actions speak for themselves. When I was young, I loved baseball but was forced to play. I hadn't overcome my fears and didn't want to be the center of attention. Luckily my dad had my back and helped me. I was a year ahead in school and forced to play with older kids but when they decided one year to go by age instead of grade, I found myself ahead of the curve. They needed a pitcher and although I held back, my coach really wanted me to be the pitcher. I was always so shy in front of strangers but always so confident in my own world. I found a way to balance this. For one year, I was the best pitcher and also best hitter. I remember being down and my coach telling me he needed me to hit. It wasn't my turn and I didn't have the best baseball knowledge, then or now,and so I did what he said. We needed a grand slam and he trusted me with this. The pressure was unreal, but when I delivered, it was incredible! We were the only team to have a girl on our team , Hailey, and we still won! She was also a really nice person ! I won't ever forget that moment of praise, from my coach and team. The future wasn't full of praise for me. And I would later have a chance to pitch in the last game, but i blew it from the anxiety and pressure. But that aside,i think we need to make these tests more anonymous. Even if we have to perform under pressure, wouldn't you rather know who was most capable to begin with? Then we can sort out the pressure and anxiety later ...raw skill is better than anything. Pure talent is what people seek. Why not eliminate the things that hide talent, and then later correct the course of the individual. I know if this had been presented to me,i could have achieved anything. After all, science does blind studies, why not sports? We are missing wayyyyy too much talent over things that are easy to fix .. After all,all it took for me to tryout that year was an ice cream and 20$ allowance! Just giving people some perspective and also hoping to give future kids a chance of becoming who they were meant to be! My name is Jeremiah F Perry and i played little league baseball in sandwich public schools in Massachusetts. Just trying to help kids become the people they want to be without the fear.
