Amazing interviews! It is so refreshing to be reminded you do not need extra expensive stuff to be light or hike, you just need to adapt

Hey John, a bit late, but I’m glad you ended up getting your Timberline lodge resupply alright! I was stoked to hear you caught up with Zaphod too. He’s a strong hiker and more importantly just a super genuine guy. I think I caught a Davy Crockett sighting too?

i met Courier this a few weeks ago on my NOBO section hike on the AT. He is still traveling in the same lightweight style. I wanted to see what was in his pack as he only mentioned a few of his tricks. He worked for stay at a hostel we both stays at. I saw him again in Damascus VA then that was the last time. With this light pack and his fitness he hikes pretty fast. He's one of the more memorable people i met on the trail this year. When i saw title of this video i immediately thought of him, video was about same guy, its a small world sometimes.

Did he remove the shoulder and hip pads at night to use as a sleeping pad, or were they always attached?

man my back, and neck is destroyed from 25 years in extreme sports, and im coming to this side of life now. 4 years ago in south dakota, wewll more like 5 or 6 now, I started climbing / hiking ALOT. im usually a pack mule, bring literally anything, and everything someone could use. I stopped carrying it all because realized no one needed my help. when I stopped carrying it all, people would come up to me asking if I had XYZ, and be like nah I stopped. Designed a new back pack thats not in the market at all, and it would fix all my neck, and back problem, and allow bigger hules. but not having much weight, and it not yanking on my neck even if I got the hip straps its great to think about. watching this is helping me realize I need to move again, and was gonna goto college for a bachelors in outdoor recreation, wfr, and sar. gonna goto southern utah state for it. while there, and all the school ,and all the hikes / climbs/ downhills/ all that im gonna record it all. gonna post all of it, if we can get more people inspired with going back outside, and loving the outdoors. we legit might be able to fix maybe 1-5% of America, to get them to realize hey life is not that bad, hey I can come out here, and escape it all, and just be happy. I really wish we could still just go somewhere with alot of land, and claim it, and live like old times. sadly thats only allowed in a few spots, or if you outright buy the land.

Peeing takes about 20 to 30 seconds (according to chat gpt) And you pee about 6 to 7 times in a day if youre healthy. So conservatively, thats 210 seconds of peeing per day. Assuming youre walking at 3 miles per hour; peeing while walking will save you .175 miles per day Not really worth it in my opinion Pooping while walking tho....think of the time saving

Oh wow. No music needed for this one, the mountains sing their own song. It keeps on drawing us back! So beautiful. It was so good to feel your growing peace as you grow, and step along the path of your life. John, would you consider doing another through-hike, and make a video series about it? A slower, thoughtful hike, like this section hike? I feel like the new generation of hikers who do not know they are hikers yet would fall in love with the poetry of the trail the way you share it. The world would be a better place if more people loved the earth as deeply as you do. If you are looking for another adventure... 🙂

The guy is very warm and open but you clearly see that the fella is extremely poor just by the fact that fixing glasses for him is "very expensive" as he says , this is like interviewing a hobo in carton box and praising him how he is UL for living in it.
