Fun fact! To prepare for this role, Tom Cruise had to painstakingly memorize his lines and cues, using a skill called acting to convince the audience that Mr. cruise was actually Maverick for over 90 minutes. 😮

I did something similiar on my first night patrol using the old nods as cherry private right to the shoot in 04 to baghdad. Drove us around narrow canals barely making 500' drop offs through narrow old bridges with 8,0000-10,000 ib vehicle never used nods and never driven a humvee in my life. Welcome to the 10th Mountain

It's harder on F-18 jockeys that pilots in other birds: it is a center stick control, which means that the usual G-suit can't be used. I could inflate and nudge the stick, leading to undesirable motions that could risk lives. So they are superbly trained to physically deal with the G-Load--I can say from experience that it is an immense strain and not pleasant. Unfortunately, as fighter aircraft get better and better, the weak meat inside stays the same.

This is an absolute masterclass in filmmaking. The music is just subtle enough to add emotion to the tension, the grunts and straining of a man under extreme pressure, and an entire group silently rooting him on. One of the best scenes in movie history, in my opinion.

I must have watched this movie 5 times and this clip 10 separate times. Rooster's face at 10 G looks so intense and inquisitive. He resents Maverick for pulling his papers, but he's also angry at him for his father's death. I think in this scene he became aware of Maverick's true skills and it becomes clear that he is not responsible for his father's death. I know it's just a movie, blah, blah, blah, but his face in this scene speaks volumes to the film. I love this movie! Best sequel since T2!
