    Great to see an update! I just received 4 that are about 4 inches tall and I live in Utah so they will always be indoor, hopefully I can create enough humidity for them. How are they doing now 3 years later? Some still alive?

    I’m growing dwarf Orinoco in South Florida. Mine are half the size of yours and fruiting for the first time. When do you typically like to harvest them to use for green bananas in cooking?

  • @BlakesNaturelife
    @BlakesNaturelife25 күн бұрын

    Usually, the first one you plant is not gonna be as big when it flowers but the next ones will become larger. To help with that, you just give it tons of mulch, compost around the base of it. Anything you can think of to help lower the pH like Pinebark. Any yard waste is perfect even grass clippings and leaves. At least wait about three months before they start turning yellow, should be fat enough to cook with.

    I was mind blown can pull the branches sideways to induce early flowering. Feeding it well helps by getting the tree to grow fast. Not to worry it can take a few months.

    Put together a frame at least a few inches above every branch. Christmas lights non-LED and also on the really cold nights you can put a little heater under it. Put it on the southside of home. Or make you a solar greenhouse that you can cover in the winter. It’s actually easy to do just gotta keep it alive through them a few nights, depending on where you live at. It is possible.

  • @BlakesNaturelife

    Since that video I’ve been growing some out. I would always recommend trying to keep it above 27° or at least 30. Some varieties that are grafted called Suebelle can handle about 24. Also gotta think about windchills. I would recommend having a structure that would be wind blocking And something to cover the top of it and you can always pull it back off when spring or when that cold front is gone. Just as a back up so you never get damage to the tree. I’ve been growing one from seed coming on five years in the ground. I was able to keep it alive with water when the temps were under 15°.

    What a great collection of plants. It was good to see a few I recognised from Australia. The silky oak tree Grevillea robusta has orange flowers that attract a lot of insects and birds at our place. That looks like it could be a Bunya pine at 31:33 (Araucaria bidwillii) It has very tasty seed nuts in the huge pine cones. If it is a Bunya pine in your video I hope it is a female and bears well when it grows up.

    What location is this video generally? I'm concerned about die-back from freeze damage here in Central Arkansas. I'd prefer to grow figs in the ground vs containers.

  • @BlakesNaturelife
    @BlakesNaturelife4 ай бұрын

    This is over near Tallahassee Florida John was tell me about his grandpa would grow the figs up as they were still slender easy to pull down. He would lay it on the ground and put pine straw all over it. When spring would come it would make new shoot have fruit in it. He would cut it back or repeat the process. Most of figs are tip fruiting meaning fruits on new growth. Trying to grow them on the south side of the house or in greenhouses might help.

    I’m in zone 8B to 9A some winters are colder than other years. That’s impressive. I saw one of your videos with your papaya in the pot. That’s the way to do it in super cold environments. You should look into finding a Dwarf type they will produce earlier in the container. I agree with you is tougher than people think. I started growing mine in the greenhouse, I lay them close to the ground.
