Although he wasn't ready to tackle the role of Otello when he died, I find this duet by Bjorling and Merrill far more passionate and vibrant than the above. Merrill brings a subtle menace to the part of Iago and Bjorling never disappoints.

Ausgezeichnet, bravo.

Ive always felt that Zajic has a a splendid top and low notes, but some strange sounds in-between, where she seems to chew the sounds and words,are distorted, but at least it was a real operatic voice.

Goosebumps! What a sound! Several years ago on the Metropolitan Opera intermission Opera Quiz, there was a voice identification question in which they played a recording of her singing Fiordiligi. After it was over, the commentator said, “if that isn’t perfection, I am happy to wait around for it until it comes.” And I couldn’t have put it better.

Her vibrato is too fast (almost a bleat), especially in this repertoire. It disrupts the musical line and demonstrates underdeveloped technique. Never been a fan, and this confirms it.

I much prefer this kind of vibrato instead of the wobble many sopranos have because they've wrecked their voice.
@SteveL20128 күн бұрын
@@sea1song I don’t like either. A wobble is as bad as a bleat. A healthy, even vibrato should be the goal with variation in speed based on unique singer and voice type (coloratura is typically going to have a faster vibrato than a dramatic, younger singers tend to have quicker vibratos than more mature voices).
