I see how you use the PSG to produce the cymbal sounds but how do you produce the drum sounds? I am thinking maybe the DAC but that would be horribly processor intensive. Can you briefly explain what the channels are and what the columns of data correspond to? I presume on the YM chip you need 2 bytes, one for the pitch and one for the envelope to define the instrument?
@muscises18589 күн бұрын
The Drums were going through the DAC, and the reason why they sound so good is because the sound driver does a good job handling DMAs between the two CPUs. When it comes to how the channels are laid out in the test program, it's very tricky since some channels will phase in and out of the lower slots in the video. If you want to learn more about the technical side of the sound driver, here's the link: github.com/superctr/MDSDRV/tree/master/doc

Yes, Blastem is a (very-accurate) Genesis emulator. There's also nukeyt's emulator for the Genesis, github.com/nukeykt/Nuked-MD, but it requires a more processing power to even work.

Dang. You never even used channel three for this. I'm making a ColecoVision game, and that system uses this chip. Would it be feasible to make this kind of music on a system as limited as the ColecoVision?

I would say it depends on the sound driver that targets the ColecoVision, but given that this chip is pretty easy to work with I'll say it's definitely possible.

This is the "Follin" lead, where the first few ticks are transposed up by 19 semitones. For the volume envelope, the ADSR was pretty simple like a downward slope but I left the volume around 3 or 2.
