Hey, I just wanted to take a minute to thank you. I’m 67 now, I was a bassist for 30 years, taught lessons played in bands, when my wife passed away I start playing around with a key kind of therapeutically but being wired like I am of course it led to wanting to be a keyboardist. So about 5 years ago I found a bass player who would put up with me so I could get it right and he actually bought key board equipment because I was the epitome of a broke musician … anyway sorry for the background but to put it in perspective was the point. The bassist and I used the songs we dug the most when we were young and the way you teach is the bomb. I’m finally starting to play like I always hoped I would and really by learning how to play Steely Dan and stuff like this (Real Book tunes too). But the way you have broken the songs down, taking slow tempos, that’s the way to do it. And the other thing is that you really play the songs that I like most and you got a great touch and perspective. Very generous of you sharing the techniques and like I said perspective. I find myself checking back in with you every year or so, and that’s where I can tell the growth that I have had happen. Because I stayed with it, stayed open to it, and tried my best to encourage others as well. That’s about it. Everyone watching I think this cat here’s tip-top! Best wishes/keep up the great work!💯😜🎶🎵🙏

Chuck Leavel himself said that the piano solo that’s on the original studio recording he improvised. He said that he had to “learn” it from the recording, because audiences were unhappy if he didn’t play it the same way live. I play lead guitar, and while I don’t play the solo from Jessica exactly the way Dickie played it on the recording, I do play most of the more recognizable hooks. There are some songs that people just really want to hear it the way they remember it. Hotel California and Freebird are good examples. I learned the right hand parts of this piano solo note for note, and I get to play both the piano and guitar solos when we perform live. When I absolutely nail it, people think I walk on water, but since I didn’t compose it, I feel more like I just got really good at copying someone else’s work. I’m way happier with my guitar solo on this song, because I never play it the same way twice; parts of it are truly my own

Just an amazing tutorial. I learned it years ago but if you dont keep it up, you totally forget it. The song has so much going on. I just relearned it and went through each video again. You make a very tough song relatively easy. There were lots of little things that I gradually dropped as I played it and now it sounds better than ever.

You were explaining the song real well, but right after the really cool rift, you’re going way too fast and you’re not even talking about what section of this song you’re on I have everything up until then are you saying there’s 2E flats? Or not

Alright dude, please allow me to make another comment. You give me HOPE! If you still care about this song play it as you humbly decribe your (apparent?) weaknesses, you give me hope that there are people who understand what Joe cocker and his band were about, (OK, so Leon mostly ran things) and whatever, just THANL YOU! sorry I had a bit of winne eh oh gosh just super happy now :)))))))
@quiltedpine70278 ай бұрын
whenever I see a pianist play stuff like this and on top of that be modest, like saying "I better stop or I might screw this up"... seriously you are so amazing, you could play in my band if I'm worthy enough. you played everything Leon played perfectly. your lesson is obviously oriented towards people who know how to lay piano, so a meager piano-scratcher like me will only need about three years of practice if I'm lucky, to be able to play half as good as you. You Rock!
