No matter where you go there YOU are. Being frugal doesn't bring calmness. Calmness beings frugality. First ditch the striving for crud. Then you can begin hour journey - BUT - remember this one thing (this interconnected chain)... All money comes from someone else. All money is someone elses debt paid into the system and circulated. All debt carries interest. More money MUST be injected into the system to cover the need for the extra money which covers interest and savings. Banks sell a product called Debt. With it you can make your dreams come true. The only way any business grows is by selling to more people, for higher margin or more often to the same people. This includes banka. IF we all said. Nuh I am out, no more borrowed money for me, i will save what i do not spend and live frugally, the economy would collapse overnight. "They" dont want that so you just be convinced to consume, to keep the machine turning. We, as individuals can be frugal, but as long as the majority are not then the system keeps pumping away.

I can say since I stopped buying what I thought I needed and started buying what I really needed, I've been a lot happier. Consumerism clutters the mind as well as your space.

It takes no brains and no ability to articulate a conversation to compare your handbag to someone else's handbag. Interaction and conversation with others requires just the opposite. We've got two generations of people now that cannot even sign their name much less articulate an intelligent conversation. Just ask them to print it and they will usually be able to. 🙄

In today's society we collect liabilities, instead of assets. The latest car, phone, fashion clothing, designer branded items like handbags and watches. What is the difference between a rolex and a cheap watch they both tell the time whilst one costs an absolute fortune and the other a few dollars euros yens or pounds but they both will tell you the time. What is the difference between an asset and a liability an asset earns you money, and a liability costs you money. Today we are too susceptible to peer pressure, adverts endorsed by so called celebrities, our own arrogance, our need for self gratification, therefore these people collect liabilities.

If I lost my home today to an unfortunate accident, as long as my family got out, i wouldn't have a care in the world. Not because i know I have insurance, but because we live so simply there is nothing of value in our home. Memories cant be lost, items can be replaced. Decluttering changed out lives.

The more extravagant your lifestyle the more you have to work to finance it. With this, more of your money goes to taxes to finance a system that is destroying you. It is possible to live well on less... if you stop using credit cards.. money you don't have... to buy things you don't need or really even want, you've taken the first step. Your initial reaction will be..why did you take so long to free yourself from a self imposed slavery. The choice is yours.

I am doing this with my grandma who has 3 generations of stuff in her house. A lot of it cannot and will not get used. Ever. Come to grips with that first. Second, focus on clothing - and how to donate it. You won't get even a fraction of what you paid for it. Third, Books that you haven't read in years or those magazines you'll "get to" Fourth, kitchen items that you don't use - put on craigslist free section as "Curb alert : pickup" Fifth, this will all take time and you'll constantly feel you wasted so much money. however the mental weight that will Be relieved is truly priceless. Trying to nickel and dime or sell stuff will only make it take longer. give it to friends and family for free

I think I am now on my 3rd iteration. This might sound rather depressing to someone how's doing their first iteration, but knowing that your home doesn't have to be perfect at first try. I also started at some point just throwing stuff away in trash since things were moving too slowly.

I found writing down a few prompts for when for I naturally get stuck with a decision helps. So something like "Where should 'this' be? clears away some of the confusion and emotional energy. Likewise begin one small area or drawer at a time and dispose of the broken, out dated and worn out things. If you really need them make a note to repalce them when you can. Just collecting things of a similar type temporarily like bills, socks or DVD's in a box can help batch the latter decisions on what to do with them. Finally, even a simple thing like a pen or a book can throw me sometimes. Then I get out a notepad and literallyt describe what the thing is and its function and what it means to me or function I have it for. This often interrupts the stuckness. As someone else commented this isn't a one and done job but more of a shift in a paradigm. From "keep everything, just in case" to "how does this help, or hinder, my life"

It seems slow at the beginning, but as you get lighter, the momentum starts building. And slowly you start keeping only items that you love and need. It's a lifelong quest against stuff of this world. After purging the material stuff, life calls you to purge inner unnecessary stuff. Down the road, you get lighter and free-er. Later in life, you will thank yourself for making this effort now. Keep going.

I don't know why so many people assume we work to buy crap. From Portugal, to France and several places in the UK, I've seen most people work to pay bills and still need to grow children in terrible places and eat edibles instead of food. It's not "consumerism", it's attempting to have the bare minimum.... for the family. The ones that can consume, please keep doing. It's food on the table for other people. Having that said, if you decide not having a family, then do a favor to yourself and have a simple life.

my father would say throughout my younger life " is there food in the fridge , is there gas in the car , are the bills paid , do you have clothes on your back , are the animals and garden taken care of" ? "well if the answer was yes then you are fine if no then concentrate on those that are not until everything is fine" "then you will be happy" 😊
