    Wham is an excellent live recording of the Buddy Rich Big Band. His alto sax man Alan Gauvin did the recordings back in 77 and 78. He told of this great story he needed money for a down payment to buy his house. Buddy gave him the money and never asked him to pay him back. Buddy even bought him a new alto sax. You never hear these wonderful stories about Buddy Rich. Here I am doing my drum solo workout and trying out some new drum techniques. It seems to work good for me, so I will keep using them. Thanks for your comment.

    You got 2 things above Buddy, you can read charts, and seem to have good posture when playing. Many times seeing Buddy's posture just looks painful, but he played a home run everytime on those skins. Have you ever experimented with double bass or double pedal?

  • @KenLoomer
    @KenLoomer3 күн бұрын

    Buddy had that amazing talent of hearing a complex chart once, and then knowing what to play better than any drummer. I don`t have that talent. I need to read the music and after playing it a few times, I can add what I think will make the music feel better with my drumming. As far as poster is concern, whatever works best for you, then do it. I did use a double pedal when it first came up. I had no problems playing it and was fun for awhile. But since I`m mostly a jazz drummer, not much need for a double pedal. I found I was over using it and then I just didn`t like the sound of it. My foot control on a single bass drum pedal is very fast and this works best for the music I play. People more impressed with what I`m playing on a single bass drum pedal. I would say 98% of drummers using the double pedal play rock or heavy metal music. I don`t play that type of music.

    @@KenLoomer I could never read drum music that well, with the exception of some rudiments.

  • @KenLoomer
    @KenLoomer3 күн бұрын

    @@jasonpp1973 Sight reading drum charts is an artform that you have to do it all the time to get good at it. Since I`m a first call drummer for doing so many shows and reading charts for many artists, I learned how to do it well. I read a little ahead of the chart to set up hits and knowing where the tempo changes are, what dynamic`s to be played, where the breaks are, and what feel I have to play to make the music feel right. The drummer will make or break the music for sure. Most drummers would have no clue on how to play a up tempo chart like Wind Machine with all the drum breaks and having the right swing feel for this music and driving the Big Band. I enjoy reading music I never played before. It`s not just reading the music, but having the right feel for the music you are playing.

    As a drummer Big Band leader, it`s all about the music first for me. I want to support my fellow musicians with my drumming on these exciting arrangements I pick for the band to play. This is a roaring swinging Big Band that I`m so proud to play in. Thanks so much for your comment Daniel.

    I love plying on this rare Slingerland Super Sound King Snare Drum. Very crisp sounding snare that projects so well. Every beat I play on it comes out very clearly. Thanks for your comment.

    thats nice. throw might get in the way sticking up over the rim but i guess iff to the side he way u and seemingly most position it makes it the most safe from being accidently bumped. .did u have the muffler engaged?

  • @KenLoomer
    @KenLoomer13 күн бұрын

    As you can see in the video, the strainer is no where near my leg to hit it. The rock drummers would tilt the snare the other way ,so no problem it would get hit. The tone control muffler was not engaged. I used a Remo Emperor snare head to get a more dryer sound for this Slingerland Super Sound King snare drum.

    Always good to learn your rudiments no matter what style of music you play. Plus I work on my drum technique to play relax and to be able to come up with new idea`s on what to play. Thanks Frank for your comment.

    I like to watch so many musicians who play other instruments. I learn from all of them and get inspired to improve my playing and how I can as a drummer support what they play with my drumming. Thanks for your comment.
