    Can't believe I spent £200 on Antares Harmony Engine and Autotune last year when I could have upgraded to Ableton 12 and got them as a stock plug in for less money 😭😭😭

  • @Modul8online
    @Modul8online16 күн бұрын

    Ah I know!!! I remember talking about it in one of our lessons, nothing even came close to Harmony Engine and what it could do at the time. That being said if you used harmony engine and autotune in your tracks then it was worth it, Auto Shift isn't actually fully released yet too so just think positive things 😂 And I've not fully compared the two yet, I know Harmony engine has some features auto shift doesn't like the individual formant tuning, panning etc. Plus you also got Autotune in that price, which might sound better than auto shift!

    I might be in the minority, but I've never understood why you would use drum rack. Isn't it super awkward for mixing and plug-in use on individual drums? I prefer having a track per drum sample, for mixing and to have individual MIDI clips as well. I even use multiple instances of Kontakt (for Modern Drummer etc) to have individual drums isolated to separate tracks. I'm looking forward to this Drum Sampler, although I'm not sure which benefits it'll really have over Simpler. Just hope you can use it outside of a Drum Rack, too.

  • @Modul8online
    @Modul8online18 күн бұрын

    You can have individual effects on individual sounds in drum rack you just need to look in the session view and expand the drum rack, it also means they’re all grouped together already, which is nice. You can also have sends and returns too, they’re just located in the chains view of the drum rack. Having all your midi in one clip can be easier as you can easily line up drum hits between instruments and applying swing using the grooves are super easy in one clip too. Also using multiple kontakts on different tracks will increase your CPU as you have multiple plugins running at once, you can use kontakt in multichannel mode to separate each sound into an audio track in Ableton but it’s a bit of a hassle setting it up to be fair Oh you can use drum sampler just as an instrument outside of drum rack just like simpler though. 😁

    There is a lot of aliasing and fold back distortion in this plugin. Tube processing is an even harmonic. You should not see any third order. Processing like this desperately needs oversampling, it's kind of remarkable the developers did not add that. If you're using AI and all these tricks to analyze analog saturation characteristics how can you not account for aliasing and fold back distortion in the final digital signal. You should remake this video at 192K. I bet your analyzers look different.

  • @Modul8online
    @Modul8online18 күн бұрын

    Yes there are some aliasing problems for sure it would have been nice to have an oversampling option. I'm not sure about the tube processing though, Tube amplifiers emphasise even harmonics but it doesn't mean they don't add odd harmonics and from looking around online most still create odd harmonics. Even with these issues though it still sounds really good, which is all that matters.

  • @Modul8online
    @Modul8online20 күн бұрын

    So when you add a groove into the groove pool, there's a small yellow activation button next to it. This will make this the default groove for the project. Any clips created after doing this will automatically have the groove applied. It's useful if you create a drum beat a the start with a groove because everything you create after that will already have that groove applied as long as you create a new empty clip i believe. Hope that helps. 😀

    Great tutorial mate, thank you. Can you say a bit about what the LFO tool does?

  • @Modul8online
    @Modul8online24 күн бұрын

    The LFO tool is used for a sidechain compression effect, it basically lowers the volume of one sound when another plays, for example when the kick drum plays the LFO tool lowers the volume of the bass and then brings it back up when the kick drum isn't playing, this leads to a cleaner sounding mix as they don't both play on top of each other causing mess. You can use a regular compressor plugin for this but LFO tool, Kickstart 2 and others are better as they provide more control over the ducking process.

    In the full review on the channel I compare it to some other 3rd party plugins like Fab Filter Saturn and Soundtoys Decapitator and it sounds pretty similar to their "tube distortion" settings and they are two of the best distortions out there. I also analyse the way it shapes a sine wave and the harmonics it creates and it does have some complex processing going on unlike most simple wave shapers and distortions. But I do also agree that the differences are very subtle when compared to other plugins, it's just great that it comes for free with Logic.

    Auto gain? I get a change in volume.

  • @Modul8online
    @Modul8onlineАй бұрын

    It's not exactly perfect auto gain no, but increasing the drive increases the input level into the distortion and at the same time it decreases the output level too (not visually) so the overall volume stays roughly the same when changing the drive. It helps because you can actually hear when the waveform is being distorted instead of hearing the volume increasing and potentially speakers, headphones or other plugins distorting because of the volume change but i'd always double check the volume before and after and correct with the level out too.

    Knowing the basics of Music theory is a pretty essential skill to have not just for writing chords, bass etc but for matching samples and remixes too and it's easier than you'd think. But that being said learning music theory can sometimes hinder your creativity as you won't be as adventurous and use your ears to write music and many tracks just like this one don't fit in a conventional key so knowing music theory won't necessarily help. Keep practicing and you'll get there!
