I was on a sanctioned vessel and the flag was withdrawn by the flag state. There was delay in registering with new flag and was stateless for 2-3 months. In this case, no ports will accept the vessel, so what we usually do is to anchor at OPL (singapore, galle, port said,..). New flag surveys will be carried out at OPL and certificates and documents will be issued , there after, we can sail as normal

the only query i have is how do i distinguish between questions which ask about simultaneous loading of cargoes, the way in this question the calculation for number of bales of jute and cotton are different, how do i tell if the question asks for loading both the items in a single hold, any and all tips/suggestions are appreciated.

What's the benefit of taking your lever from aft instead of center? Is it due to having an even amount of ordinates?
@SteeringMariners7 күн бұрын
You get a positive lever for any point (from aft to fwd). Otherwise you can take any point for reference.

A stationary vessel heading 045° T has a force 3 wind on her starboard quarter ( 135° Relative from the starboard bow ). Using a sketch or diagram, what is the true wind direction

Indeed grateful Capt, On point and more than expected. Valuable info...cheers Sam. Btw can you please clarify : "C" would be total area under highest lever and whole of Y a-xis right? not only small part between top 2 ( wind & fodder )?
@SteeringMariners13 күн бұрын
You are right, B should have been written slightly below the second horizontal line. C should be under the first (highest) horizontal line and the rightmost vertical line. Remember, we are focusing on area under the curve only. Hope that makes sense.

@SteeringMariners14 күн бұрын
In theory, the quarter mean draft does take care of the heel correction. But the surveyors will never ask you to ignore the heel correction (subject of discussion between theory and practice).

No words to express gratitude for your all efforts for putting it so simple. We as Indian seafarers are in large numbers in the industry but very few think and feel its your responsibility to contribute to the fellow seafarers. I wish many can come forward just like you to help the world of seafarers. May you all have safe and healthy sailing. Ameen

Yes sir, We tap it before taking atmospheric pressure readings because the instrument relies on a delicate mechanical mechanism that can be stuck or jammed due to friction or other factors. By tapping we loosen any friction or sticking in the mechanism. Ensure the diaphragm or other moving parts are free to move accurately. Allows the instrument to respond accurately to any changes in air pressure.

Sir, it's a RADAR reflector. It's an important equipment of boating safety equipment because a small vessels can be difficult to detect on the water, both visually and by the other vessel's radar specially in rough weather. So it helps to detect the position, distance and bearing easily of that small boat from any vessel's RADAR. And it's should be placed at highest point on the boat, as much as we can for best and easy detection to the RADAR.
