Lotus has always been difficult to define musically. An instrumental jamband that stayed away from the goofy and gimmicky, they have favored groove-based improvisation instead of gaudy solos and noodling. Influences of classic electronic dance music, funk, post-rock and dance-rock have all made their way into the Lotus sound. Over the years, their unique musical blend of electronica with jam music has helped forge a new path in the jamband landscape, influencing many younger bands in the scene.
The long-running quintet have returned in 2020 with Free Swim, their new studio album out independently August 21st, which pays homage to the greats of music’s past, built on the bones of what the five members of Lotus listen to and have absorbed over time,

They don’t sound much like anything I remember when I last saw them… 15 years ago lol. Gonna see them this summer with my best friend who was obsessed with them back in the day. Excited to see what they bring still

Both of these Buffalo shows seriously blew everyone away! All the OG Lotus fam there and firstime experiencers alike. So grateful for every second... especially because my little brother finally got to see one of my favorite bands live both nights and it just happened to be two of their best shows I've ever seen.🤯🙏😺
Saturday show was my first time seeing lotus though I’ve listened to them for almost a decade. I brought a bunch of friends who’d never even heard of them. It was the most incredible musical performance any of us had ever seen. Needless to say, we all got summerdance tickets 🥹
So happy for you that you all made it for that show of all shows! I totally agree, that was some of the best live music I've seen and that says a lot.... Lotus is transforming and really freeing themselves up to explore and go wherever the music takes them... My Grandpa was a big jazz musician so I've always had a great appreciation for improv, and these guys are on some whole new level lately and they look so happy up there which they truly deserve. Summerdance is going to be insane this year! It's probably one of the most magical and special festivals I've been to, such a tight loving community and the vibes make you feel like you're at home. Plus the stage is right on the beach and you can swim and hear the shows from the water! If you haven't heard of them before you should also check out the band Octave Cat that will be playing at Summerdance! Jesse Miller (bass player for Lotus), Eli Winderman (keyboard/synth player from Dopapod), and Charlie Patierno on drums... they're so jazzy and funky. Honestly the whole lineup is pretty stacked so this is gonna be one for the books. I'm trying to get my lil brother to finally go to his first Summerdance now that he finally saw Lotus in Buffalo for his first times and was blown away. Hope to see you there! It's always the highlight of my summer season, I promise you won't regret it for a second 🪷🎶🙏🥰🙏🎶🪷

Since things have obviously changed I’ve been checking their newer shows out to see what 2024 Lotus sounds like without Rempel and Chuck (RIP) and I’m thoroughly unsurprised to see they still sound absolutely fantastic.
