    Hi Mike! I am experiencing Extremely slow connections. I have my client set up as an exit node on a 250 Mbps network, and when I connect from another 250 Mbps network outside my home (connecting from a Pi-Linux, PC-Windows, Android, iPhone, TV), the download speeds are below 5 Mbps, but the upload speeds are around 20 Mbps. The connection to the exit node is direct, according to what the Tailscale status command indicates. Does anyone know what might be causing this issue with the download speeds?

  • @MikeFaucher
    @MikeFaucher20 күн бұрын

    Good question. The bridge lives on the WAN side of the switches between the ISP modem and your switch. Bridge devices are not VLAN aware as they only filter and protect the actual final connection to the internet. If you are relying on your ISP hardware for VLANs it will not work. You will have to get a different router or use Sophos or pfSense as your router. Hope that helps.

My goal is to have Reolink cameras isolated from internet access to prevent unauthorised remote viewing, while still being able to access this private network remotely via Tailscale (installed on the OpenWrt router with subnet routing). I'm less concerned about the cameras talking to other devices on the same router as I have a dedicated router they are on. I want to ensure the cameras cannot communicate with Reolink servers or leak data online. Do you have any suggestions on how to achieve this? Thanks!

    It's three years later, are there even 40 Gb/s RJ45 switches / network cards to make use of CAT 8? I feel like doing singlemode fibre for 10+ Gb/s is way more flexible. I mean, you can push 25 Gb/s or even faster trough fibre for many tens of miles / kilometres. And tbf, I don't believe I'm saying this, 10 Gb/s for in-house (home use) copper cabling is enough, for faster stuff, use fibre instead. So just use CAT 6A instead of the more expensive CAT 8???

Because in Singapore wifi7 works for it, but not for Malaysia right next door. So i could only test wifi 6. I barely hit close to 1gig speeds on the 6ghz band. I've always used larger single drives to back it up, along with Backblaze, but liking the idea of this QNAP for having larger volume and not having to delineate different backups. I just bought the TP-Link Archer Txe72e with 5.3 BT on offer £49.99. In device manager after installing driver from the package CD it turns out to be a Mediatek MT7922 chipset. So far it's very stable. My previous wifi card was an Intel 7260 from Asus bought for a similar price in 2016, that was garbage, faulty, it crashes, self disables and blue screens, drops connections many times a day. 5ghz or vht mode it would disable itself forcing a reboot. The new card txe72e has steady fast link speed 585-866 mbps limited by our ISPs AC router.

I can't share links anymore, won't post. Amazon states it being an Intel AX210 so I was miffed when I saw another brand in there. I'll check the back of card later to confirm. Not saying your info is wrong, I'm just miffed. Maybe something has changed over the course of the year with TPlink since the video was published. I watched this video and your previous one testing wifi6 cards multiple times over the year, to decide what to get. Tp-link is well known and was on offer and this archer model received favourable ratings on various review sites. I’ve got a laptop that I can’t change the configuration of, however I need its outgoing traffic to originate from my home office, while I’m on the road. So I’d use a windows machine as an exit node in my home office. I also think of using a second laptop on windows as a subnet router. It connects via LAN to a 5G Router as its default gateway. I’d used a ASUS Wi-Fi Router to connect the Customer Laptop to via Wifi. The Wifi Router would use the subnet Router Laptop as the default gateway via a secondary LAN port connected by USB-C. If the setup would work as desired, all traffic should go from the Customer Laptop to the Wifi-Router to the subnet-Router-Laptop to the 5G Router and via VPN to the Exit Host on my home network (another Windows machine). So all outgoing traffic should be originating from my home network. That’s a lot SPOF.. but do you think this would work or do you have an idea for a simpler or better setup?

    Unfortunately I am not clear on the configuration you are trying to do. Installing a Tailscale on all your external clients to use one single internal machine (even an Apple TV) setup as both a subnet router and exit node should do the same.

    found out more info. seems for tplink their archer, deco and omada series wifi7 stuff might have MLO issues in regard to the samsung S24 Ultra. There is a beta firmware that may fix it, but i have no access to it to find out. But this issue was report as early as a few days to a week ago so it's probably still a problem right now. Even the EAP-773 which i ordered was explicitly mentioned having the issue for this phone model. Funnily enough the pixel 8 has working mlo with the EAP-773 (but it has a different problem where it's limited to 160MHz band vs the samsung s24 ultra 320 MHz)

    Good to hear. I am still waiting for UniFi to enable the MLO functions so I can test this out.

    I think this Company will be the best in the docking station domain and kick out most of the competitors. I do have the thunderbolt enclosure nvme with fan and its amazing. Looking forward to test and review this unit at some point.

    Hi Mike, Great review, Thank you. Are you still attaching this unit to your NAS ? I wanted to do something similar to your setup so that I use it to host movies. I wanted to store high bitrate movies and I am worried that streaming over the wifi will not be successful and slow because of the usb connection between NAS and TR004. How was your experience? Did caching give better results? Planning to use Plex installed on the NAS (SSD volume) but sources from the TR004 Volumes. Cheers!

    Your issue will be more with wi-Fi than 10Gbps USB. The speed of the devices is enough for full res uncompressed files and around 2-3 times faster than Wi-Fi so it should not be an issue. I use mine for strictly backup. I have tested the unit before for streaming using ethernet and did not have any issues.

    I label serial numbers of drives & place label in a location where label can be seen without pulling drives. This speeds up ID of the defective drive and its replacement.
