Practice of Vipassanas concentration on breath helps me to understand primordial breathing otherwise I would still not understand , this is what they teach worldly on goenka retreats, thank you for helping to put peace’s together! I mean on Vipassana you focus on breath and slow breathing for 3-4 days then you apply gathered concentration into further exercises, then they say that ideal breathing is the one that just comes in and out automatically, since I felt this state I can imagine how to apply your instructions better.

Buona giornata e buona pratica.

This was very informative. Thank you. I am not an official student of any internal styles, but I would love to be someday. I am very fascinated by them and have reflected on the concepts for some time. Videos like yours always teach me something. A couple questions for you- First question: In my reflections on the concept of Yin and Yang, the association it has with balance seems fairly obvious, but what seems to be misunderstood is what balance really is to begin with. Like you said about softness and hardness, balance too, is not a static or absolute state. For example, the ocean is both turbulent and tranquil at any given time. We tend to perceive only the calm waters as balanced, and not the turbulent parts. No, only the whole thing is balanced, because smaller imbalances are what create the greater balance. Part of balance is chaos and imbalance. In other words, balance a pencil on your finger, and it is only possible because of two opposing imbalances. Yin and Yang seem to symbolize no absolutes. Is this similar to how it is thought of in internal martial arts? Second question: There seems to be a rather unclear line on exactly what constitutes an internal style looking at it from the outside, especially from a Western perspective. You mention internal styles being trained soft first then hard (or soft to achieve hard), is it fair to say that this approach is the main thing that differentiates between an internal and external style? Refinement first then hardness for internal, vs. hard first then softness later for external? Thanks again for your informative work. Keep it up. 😁

always like the history angle from your explanation. i think i saw video of gongliquan's taiji sword in one video. i thought it was wrong translation because the form was not far too different from the contemporary taiji sword form :p

i learned about 60% of the old style in the lineage of chen xiaowang. however a friend who teached 24 yang in my city and also a bit of xinjia in the lineage from ma hong, told me the story of this new style and old style confusion. at some point i had the opportunity to ask Chen Xiaowang in person, but he did not have an interesting answer with additional informations to resolve the confusion. however, i saw him practicing the new style himself while maybe mainly teaching the old style. i always thought that the spiral reeling silk movements look very beautiful and feel very nice. however, it adds an additional level of complexity to make progress when starting to learn chen style tai chi chuan. the videos of ma hong look very cool. sadly there are no really high quality high resolution videos around. it was sad when i heard of his passing in 2013. i have his book in my shelf at home 🙂

Is there in the Yin Yang concepts, something about change? ie like a pendulum that keeps moving from side through the center of the arc to the opposite side, never stopping. Ps didn't the Song Dynasty's metalworkers suffer great lost of life during the wars with its neighbours?

Two questions - How do we summarise the Yin Yang Concept for internal martial art visualisation? How do we break this abstract of the Yin Yang Concept to cultivate a new balance/harmony, Qi, and internal Martial Art practice?

Reverse breathing? Opening and closing front only, back only, left side only, right side only - is this splitting and controlling the Yin Yang concept with martial intention?

Taiji sword history section was very interesting. Is there a reason swords were made to be flexible? wouldn't it make it difficult to transfer power to the tip when stabbing? Very interesting.

Returning a little to the topic of Ying Yang, as a practitioner I always had difficulty, although I was able to be faster than my male colleagues, with my technically more capable colleagues I always had more difficulty due to having less muscular strength. I usually have a 100% vegetarian diet, which also limits my muscular capacity. As I get older, I recognize that I may have to change my dietary pattern to be able to practice healthily. Knowing that traditional Chinese culture has an extensive and varied gastronomic menu, which I do not have access to for various reasons. I ask, each of the 3 internal styles has very different specificities in terms of muscular, tendon and bone requirements. Does the way in which energy power is expressed in each of the 3 styles require a specific diet for each of them? How can I reconcile advancing age and martial practice? Should women observe certain practices in their diet that make them more physically powerful?

Habitualmente tenho um regime alimentar 100% vegetariano o que me me limita igualmente a capacidade muscular.

Thanks for your explanation on TCC sword history. As far as I know one of the more known sword forms in TCC is Yang Cheng Fu sword set that it seems he learned from his friend , General Li Chin Lin in the begenning of last century. He , was considered the "saint sword" at that time in China. And, ye,s his practice originated from Wu Tang tradition. When I said TCC sword must be a combat weapon I meant, precisely that, having been adopted for practicing purposes it most retain his real usage, or else the practice loss his meaning.

Thank you very much for your honest expression about your thoughts and experience in all things, martial art, chinese culture and philosophy. Thats the way we can realy learn and compare what we thought about to be true (mostly myths and wrong translations and misunderstandings) and how things objectively are. I am very grateful and looking forward to all your future teachings. best regards Thomas Hudecsek

Dear HAI Yang, I follow your videos for years, You have been doing a great work explaining the essence o chinese internal arts. For the first time I desagrre with your view here about TCC sword. Tcc sword must be a combat weaopon not a performance tool as nowadys . What you are presenting as TTC sword as a very flexible one is just a modern WUSHU version not real TCC.
