Kunda is my amazing basenji sidekick. She was born in 2006. She is smart, funny and an excellent communicator (which anyone who comes to know her over time quickly observes). She knows what she wants and is reasonable most of the time. When she doesn't get what she wants, she expresses herself with impish sass, which is hilarious. It can be subtle and there are hints of it in these videos.

My dude associates going outside with getting a treat as sometimes in the morning he wont want to get out of bed and go potty but it needs to happen. When you let him back in he sits in a spot and just stares at the treat container and if you dont give him one or a piece of one he flips his shit, full on tantrum. My basenji knows how to speak as well, he grew up with a bulldog who would bark so he started doing little borks not to be left out.

Very chatty. Both of mine are the quiet type. My female likes to make a yawn noise to get out attention, and the male occasionally makes the arf noise bark like basenji's sometimes do (the startled sound, maybe?).
Be careful, my wife use to do that to our little demon, and afterwards she would find a shoe, purse, a piece of clothing destroyed by him. As to say to play those games with me. A very beautiful Beastie 😃
I feel very sorry, the dog seems to struggle to talk. Dogs are meant to bark and not talk like humans.
Basenjis don't bark. They do make a wide range of noises like yodeling, whining, chortling and so on, and some of these sounds might sound like a strange bark, but basenjis don't bark like modern dogs do. This basenji is talking in a way that is perfectly natural for the breed.
Basenjis are the oldest dog breed known. This dog has been this way for thousands of years.

I've seen TONS of posts, that say the Basenji is not a smart dog. I disagree! A Basenji won't just jump up and do what you want. She needs to see the reason for doing that. Kinda like a cat. LOL, I feel the same way every time I watch this! I never intended to share it in this way. I was sending it to a friend to prove a point but she was so funny I had to share it. She does very much respond to voice command and communication though. Also, kind of an asshole comment :)

This might be an awful thing to say but it seems like that a relationship with a dog is far superior to a human interpersonal relationship. Only saying that dogs dont come with issues and hangups that are so prevalent with human beings. They only want to show love and have fun..

Like a terrier's short hair. It doesn't get any longer except a little around the backs of the legs in winter and they do not shed. They hardly smell at all either, very clean animals. Their faces feel like velvet.

You can get basenjis from BRAT . It's the basenji dog rescue. That is where I got mine and my son got both of his . He also fosters them . They are great dogs but have a mind of their own much like cats.

Love her head roll at 0:34. What a pretty girl!! Does she shake herself a lot? Our dog does it all the time. He has blue mixed eyes, so maybe part Australian shepherd? He also has an underbite.
She does not shake. She does indicate very clearly that she does not care for something by "sneezing". If I call her out on it she just stares me in the eye and does it again. LOL
