Staying in this confident growly character makes this tune sound with big ba... bald attitude :) Love it. Thanks Dominick

I feel like you explained ghost notes but not ghost tonguing. When you use the "n" as an example for a ghost note, the sound comes out of your nose. Great for scat singing but not so much for trumpet playing. An accented note usually follows a ghosted note, so try setting up the tongue with a "th" into a "d" through the lips (hard to explain...I get it!) I've been trying to teach this to students for 40 years which is why I got so excited when I saw the title to your video. I hope my explanation makes sense. You sound great btw.

...more precisely, I think it has to be a kind of doodle tonguing instead of articulating with an "n" to let the air flow through.

Tasty collab with Aaron Diehl - a favorite pianist of mine. Seemingly organic feel, articulation, time, and phrasing - none easy to do, asynchronously!

Yessir! I always tell my students that if you want to understand where Clifford was coming from, you gotta seriously study Fat Girl! When I met Roy Hargrove many years ago after he heard me play i bit, he was like "okay bro, so you really dig Clifford huh? Well you better get hip to Fats Navarro then" and I can't tell you how helpful that advice was!!!!!!!

Dominick! This is one of my favorite live Clifford solos and it's incredibly clear how much work you've put in digging deep into this and every other Brownie solo that you've shared with all of us over the years. I know we haven't met but you've played with some of my brothers during my undergrad years at UNF like Christian Tamburr, Billy Thornton, Scott Giddens, and a few others. Would love to get to hang sometime and pick your brain! Much love and thanks so much for sharing your love and deep knowledge of our music with the world!!!!!!!!!

The question about the "n" syllable blocking off the airway and the difference between this technique and doodle tonguing has been posed many times in this comment section but never adequately answered. If anyone reading this has the answers I would very much appreciate an explanation! In hope...

Hey I just saw this cause I was figuring out how to do ghost notes as well. Since I just started this today I’m not very qualified to give advice on this topic but I tried da and then dey/day and I felt like that was an improvement. Another comment on this video also tried using L. Hope this helps in some way if you were stilling wondering.
