We stayed in an ocean side condo in HA for a week in 1996. The dolphins were standing on their tails the whole time.

Very well presented and said. Came to that conclusion years ago. We are just eating ourselves out of existence. Start enjoying some vegetables.

Thanks for the information. I already had problems eating farmed salmon and now that I know that even wild-caught salmon might not be what I'm expecting, I'll definitely cut down on eating it. Too bad this kind of info isn't everywhere.

Bottom line is that the current human population is reaching the limits of sustainability. We are ingenious in finding ways to alter our enironments to our benefit, but it will change the natural order and have some drawbacks. The ultimate solution starts with managing ourselves, but that is a hard task.

Thanks for the information, it was very interesting. I eat one small portion of wild Alaskan pacific salmon a week. It says on the packet that it is certified sustainable seafood. Whatever that means!

as a native american the salmon escaping and breeding with the wild salmon is actually scary. I dont like the hatcheries they feed them purina mix giving them a worst start on life with a pesticide gmo diet and the farms are using wastewater compost with heavy amounts of pfas so thats in the food there feeding to them and putting in the ocean. salmon need to be born in the stream they are going to return to even efforts by the yurok tribe to build streams are failing restoring their natural habitat and soil seems to be a nearly impossible task and it really hasnt been done successfully on the long term more than a year or two. these salmon used to be over 100 pounds (45kg) each when I was little now they look like sardines.

I now eat sardines instead of salmon as sardines are nutritionally as good or better than salmon, come in portion controlled cans, the meat doesn't spoil, can be stored indefinitely and is therefore super convenient, they are much less expensive than salmon, and consuming sardines is less damaging to the environment.

Because there are too many people in the world it’s it’s called world over population…! I might have just made that up. They keep telling us in the United States that we need more people we don’t have enough people. Well, we don’t have enough people to keep the things we don’t need functioning. But if we look like we should live we have more people than we need and getting more every day because of Joe Biden’s open border….! so you want things to be good like they used to be good food freedom to do what you wanna do less crime want to go back to how it was, then reduce the population….!

I'm a very senior citizen who grew up in New England. Fish was plentiful and cheap, especially swordfish, which is almost gone, commercially. At that time, Catholics couldn't eat meat on Friday, so the fish markets were busy. My family wasn't Catholic, but my mom would shop at the Fulton Fish Market, and we often add fish on Friday, usually sole or swordfish and I can't remember what else. The New England waters are pretty fished out by now. You can't get swordfish at all, and the haddock usuallly comes from another ocean area.

Thank you for a very informative vid. I was unaware of how "wild" salmon are farmed and processed. I haven't eaten salmon in a while. I've enjoyed it in the past but honestly, I really don't miss it. By the way, I consume two TB (30 ML?) of ground flax seeds every day. They're an excellent source of Omega 3's, plus being really cheap. It's very depressing to see what we've done to our wildlife species - but at least avoiding salmon in my diet is a small step in the right direction.

If salmon return to the place they were born, why do salmon farms need pens at all? By controlling where they're born en masse, doesn't the salmon farmer control where the salmon will return en masse? Can't they just harvest them when they return?

More should be done to recreate wild salmon habitat and remove barriers to the natural flows. Many of the dams seem to be in areas with very little electric production at all. And fresh water storage should be done in areas upstream of the fisheries not down or in the middle.

Thank you for an Awakening Report. We humans are eating ourselves out of extinction. far too many of us , overpopulated specie, placing high-stress demands on the Small Planet we inhabit ! We are consuming our resources until there is no more to sustain life!! ASK. How did we get here? we are living not in Balance with Nature and the eco System. Adopt a less consuming lifestyle, eat less ,Live with Less, and be carless. Be a Minimalist !!.i enjoy the content.... I'm Cuban...we have learned to Live with almost nothing . And we Thrive.

I got invited to become a salmon seiner worker (beach/skiff/cook) in 1976. Went fishing till 1985. and it is definitely a very dangerous job. Never liked what was happening to the marine ecosystem or the salmon. It was nice to get away from Vancouver to be in the natural coastal paradise that was enjoyable. Got seriously injured twice, with not a penny of compensation. The native peoples of yesterday had it correct. Live with modest impact on this species, harvesting a small amount upstream. I don’t buy salmon, but the B.C. land based pens could offer a solution, sort of.

im getting to the point of , if i catch it ill eat it("wild" seafood) , ill only take what i need for that day and 1 extra family meal (trying to balance energy use with food gathered) ive had tasmanian salmon , yuk , then found out about the skates so thats no longer something i support. ive had wild imported salmon , yum, but can i justifiy the cost (money to me and impact to the planet) nope. i found a patch of green lip abalone in a area wiped clean by commercial fishing, im proud to say that in the 5 years since finding it i harvest a small number of abs per year , no one else has found it (they will oneday and i can only hope they leave a good number of breeders) as the numbers have gotten to the point of many many abs . all healthy. all i had to do was put my greed second to my knowledge. anyhoo thks for the info !!!

I stopped buying any farmed fish many years ago! This is a great video, it talks about why farming salmon is bad for the environment/ocean, and wild salmon. But, if your selfish and don't about the ocean and just want to keep eating farm fish, you should do yourself a favor and watch "Farmed Norwegian Salmon World’s Most Toxic Food". Anyone will be crazy to eat keep eating farmed Norwegian salmon after watching that documentary!
