I dont understand why people add battery banks, solar, etc to a rolling generator that is a Prius. I've spent about a year living in a Prius, using only a 1200w inverter for power. I've left it in READY mode for over 3 months without issues.

@lisamallard I understand but know that if you're just running a small fridge and charging a few devices the gas engine would only run for a minute or 2 every hour or so. That's nothing.

I really like this simple design! What I am trying to understand is the existing toilet, it looks like it is made out of two drawers? I searched for a video on your channel to see how the original construction happened. Any details about the original box would be very helpful. Thanks!

Mine just crapped out. It's the buttons that stopped working. The + and - stopped a couple months ago. Fan was on Auto just a bit ago. Shut it off as it got cooler in here, went to turn it back on while I burnt some food, and nope. Thanks so much for this video. Now I know I can mess with it to get it working again. Okay, pulled it apart, it was filthy including the board. The power cables on mine are hard-wired to the board, so I couldn't bring it somewhere more convenient to work on. But I did Wipe it clean, used canned air on the board. Got the power button, direction, and Auto buttons working again. Still no + or -. Works better not screwed into the ceiling. It's the button mechanism itself that I think is the true culprit on mine. Probably too much dust and dirt in it from spending too much time in the desert. Set it on Auto so it'll work when I need it most. In the meantime, I wanna work on a bypass to the board. I didn't have a 9V battery to duplicate your test, but I'll figure something out....

Somebody else had the same problem in the Amazon reviews and posted they used this controller to fix it. I'm on the road now, so I'll pick it up from an Amazon locker next week. Looks like an easy install. The most time-consuming part will be splicing the wires.

Good set up Lisa 👌 It's amazing to think that 2 people and a dog can be comfortable in a car. Thinking outside the box means you can sleep inside a box, and save a tonne of money 👍 I think times are going to get harder, so multiple uses for a car makes a lot of sense.

It's nice to see a video from you, almost like the good old days. You and Vagabond Mango really have Prius travel/camping figured out, and post about it very imtermittently. I sold my spare 2005 Prius in 2022 when prices spiked, because I'd driven it only 3000 miles total in the 5 years after getting my 2017 Prius Prime. This month I took a 7500 mile trip in the Prime, for the first time since summer of 2021. It lacks the under-floor storage of your Prius, so I now have to choose between carrying a less than monstrous amount of stuff, or adding a cargo carrier on the roof or hitch. I've avoided using external storage so far, traveling solo and pet-free. The same 12V freezer that I used in 2021 is still running perfectly, after running it continuously at home in my bedroom to remain used to sleeping with its sounds. It's a Vevor clone of the Alpicool CX50 (50 liter) with LG compressor option. I carry some frozen food, but mainly use it to freeze drink bottles that I swap into a soft cooler bag to use as a fridge. So there are always drinks at various stages of being frozen or thawed. A mini 100Ah LiFePO4 battery has greatly extended how long I can have the car off and the freezer holding -4F, my power station is only 300Wh but this adds 1280Wh to it. I bought more refinements for the car-camping infrastructure, but haven't installed them yet. My 19-day trip burned about 125 gallons driving 7522 miles, plus about 33 gallons for running the climate control a lot when stationary and for all 13 nights I slept in it (was at an AirBNB with family 5 nights, and in a hotel 1 night), running the freezer, charging stuff, etc. So I averaged 47.4mpg with using climate control every minute I was in the car plus running the freezer continuously. I would have averaged 60mpg if I'd skipped the luxuries of having the car on when not driving.
