    Hi, I’m sorry to bother you but I just purchased a Singer La Vencedora 1924 electric model #128 and I’m trying to discover the name for a part that I need to replace. It’s the part that the motor attaches to which makes the knee lever work. Would you happen to know which part I’m talking about and what it’s called. I can’t find any information in my searches so far. Thank you for any help you can give me.

    Does it strip the asphaltum too? Ive had a hard time buying stripper that will do the job. I usually take he machine completely apart and build a fire around all the cast iron part and start the fire and let it completly let it burn down and its gone, ready for painting

    I am confused. First you paint 3 coats of shellac on the machine, using wire wool in between coats. Is this correct? Then you apply the shellac with a dab of raw linseed oil in a circular motion. 5+ coats. Do you use the wire wool in between these coats? What is the denatured alcohol used for? When do you thin the shellac with the denatured alcohol?

    Can you purchase new decals? I have a 1904 Singer treadle machine I bought from my sister-in-law. She bought it at a steam engine show in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. It is in good shape, I think< but the decals are worn off on the bed of the aching.

    Interesting ...i have 4 cornelli embroidery machines, 2 french and 2 singer inherited from great grandmother. A lot of gears etc, they were working 25 years ago but been in storage so i need to clean oil and a bit of rust off. Going to be a challenge. I hope i can remember how to put some of the parts back together as they were taken off to stop damage. I probably have an old manual kicking around. My grandmother brought the machines to NZ in 1928. I have all the original wooden bobbins and lots of threads. Will have to find a good home for them as im too old to use them now.

    Hello Edward, thank you for your last 3 videos, very informative. Life get's busy but hoping you videoed how to shellac the machine and are too busy atm to upload. I've carefully cleaned around the decals of my 1947 99 but concerned about them lifting when I shellac. Any tips would be gratefully received. I enjoyed your conversational, holistic approach and hope you are keeping well. No pressure but waiting in hope for a look see and reassurance I can do this 😊. Kind regards, Bec

    If that stuff does that to paint , i cant imagine what can do to the delicate skin of your fingers ! just because it says that "is not toxic" it doesnt mean it is. The skin can , and does absorb any type of chemicals. I dont understand why he keeps "jokingly" using his finger and nails as removing tools!Wow!

  • @edwardtagg

    Because the chipped paint is lower, I've had to add thickness, so used 2 part epoxy, and added plastic from an ice cream container to keep the glue flat then rip it off, sand with emery, then paint it to match with a spray can

    I have my 3rd great grannies 1874 Domestic brand coffin top with a fiddle base. Where do you buy replacement decals? have no clue if it ever had any, no one alive remembers that it did, but the machine is in good shape otherwise. Thanks.

  • @edwardtagg
    @edwardtagg Жыл бұрын

    Domestic dont have replacement decals. Only singer to my knowledge. If decals are badly damaged, you can still carefully restore, and leave in that condition, and shellac and wax over top to protect whats remaining. Its good yo leave evidence of what was, no matter how decrepit.

  • @rosameryrojas-delcerro1059
    @rosameryrojas-delcerro1059 Жыл бұрын

    @@edwardtagg There doesn't appear to have been any decals, no indication whatsoever. Trust me, how decrepit she is isn't that important to me. She runs perfectly and my great great uncle H refurbished her and the cabinet in the 1940s and her cabinet looks fantastic, better than newer ones (like from the 40's) I have seen. Nobody believes that she is an 1874 when they look at her. Both of my treadles have been owned by people who actually did care and didn't plop them in an attic or basement. My other treadle (1921 from another branch of the family) is also in great condition and runs great, but someone (probably my grannies aunt) had painted the case white before WW2 so my dad and I had to remove that and refinish that one. I inherited it from granny in 2004 but it was 2016 before we got around to removing all that monstrous paint. The only thing I have had to replace (1874) is the belt (80s), and that was actually already in the drawer as a backup from when it was restored in the 1940s. There is still another belt too. He evidently bought several and a couple ended up in the drawers. Before that the 1940s was the last time it was replaced. She (1874) is not shiny and new, and never will be. The only reason I was asking about decals is that I would like to know what they would have looked like. I was not interested in replacing them. There is 6 generations of ownership in her so she will stay as she is.
