Just read it. Hated the ending for a minute. Sat on it for about 15 minutes and realized it was a perfect way to end this story.

my favorite. I read it in '80. idk jack about shakespeare.....king is a master story teller. my mother knew I love king and as she was hauling me to the airport as I was on my way to korea for a year (army) she said 'I gotta run by the mall for a sec'. this was back in the day and there was a b. dalton.s in there. she came out with a hardback of four past midnight to occupy me on the flight

I liked Suttree, but didn't love it, well, except the prose, of course, which is amazing. That opening line floored me. I say that I didn't love it, but man it stays with me long long after I wrote it. So a part of me loved it.

Strange. The first quarter of the crossing is the best I have read by him. In it's totality maybe the greatest 120 pages ever. I haven't read everything yet (Blood Meridian still on the tbr list) but the beginning of The Crossing even stands out in the sea of complete excellence that is his oevre. Also Outer Dark was particularly impressive on me.

I think I've re-read this story once a year, and even though I know the story and the outcome, I enjoy it everytime. It is possibly one of Kings best, and I wish they would hurry up and make it a movie, as long as someone competent does it.

took me 2 years to read the first 80 pages but then trying again it took 2 weeks to read the whole thing. I just had to get in to the mindset and it was mesmerising and fabulous.

The Long Walk is probably one of my all time favorites too. And I agree, if it's his first book then I give up. Fucking Barkovich really gets on my ever loving nerves, but it still breaks my heart when he buys his ticket. It's just so amazingly written that I can't put it down either. And the different charactes are almost palpable. When Percy started walking into the forest, I felt like I could reach out and grab him, to stop him. Like I'm actually with them and I can see them and touch them. I just LOVE his writing!! It's one of a kind.

I LOVE this book! It's one of my favorite books of all time. I have honestly read it at least ten times. I agree whole-heartedly that it needs to be a feature film. And sooner rather than later. But something with a good director, a budget, and high production values. Some adaptations leave a bit to be desired.

So I had to keep moving. Now just imagine these kids, but if they falter they get shot. This yeah this it could be a real case scenario in some sick twisted tyrannical mind

Totally involving read, as you say. I read it a long time ago and a lot of it still sticks in my mind. Lots of characters and incidents. It's a great example of the power of a gifted writer...poetic, yes, also pretty funny at times. As I was reading along I almost felt I was living it with Suttree. This is probably McCarthy's most underrated novel.

There is a moment at the very end of _The Long Walk_ that blows me away; somehow King manages to assemble a montage of all the faces of the boys who had lost their lives along the way, and it is so incredibly visual, so incredibly cinematic... I have never read anything in a book that put a movie scene in my head - in real time - the way that scene does. I can almost hear a swelling musical soundtrack as I read it. It's beautiful and sad, and creates such an indelible impression. I have never forgotten it. One of my favorite endings in any book I've read - not because of how it sits in the plot, but simply for the power of its effect. This is a must- read.

Finally someone who doesn’t hate Dawson lol, the fanbase of this show is full of all these fangirls who think they are experts in relationships and human behavior and think they’re so healthy and mature, but the truth is they don’t have the first clue, they are just obsessed with ship culture and obsessed with the “funny underdog guy”(Pacey) so they watch the show with blinders on and simply bash everything that Dawson does like he’s Tony Soprano or something. Just because he’s idealistic and initially naive doesn’t make him the devil like everyone thinks(mind you he was 15, he matures the most out of everyone in the show). They’ll pick any little thing he does and make it seem like the worst thing in the world but try to justify(or ignore) anything the other characters do wrong. I’m tired of everyone acting like Pacey was a saint and perfect human being, he used to be my favorite character but he fell quickly when his thing with Joey started. I could write essays on why this relationship that everyone loves was the farthest thing from perfect, not only built on betrayal, but also downright incompatible, and why they were never anything even close to “True Love” compared to what she had with Dawson. Pacey became a terrible friend to Dawson and an even worse boyfriend to Joey in Season 4, he was the classic insecure toxic boyfriend and everyone ignores it. There was nothing wrong with Dawson and Joey together aside from the writers who are the ones responsible for forcing obstacles in their way to create more drama instead of letting things flow organically. Pacey was excellent in Season 2, he didn’t belong with Joey and the writers fcked the show up by changing their vision for the stupid fans. Season 4 was excellent because it showed the organic falldown of a relationship, completely driven by their own personal flaws instead of forcing conflicts and fights that don’t come realistically *cough cough* Dawson/Joey *cough cough*

I enjoyed your review, thoughts and commentary. I'm enjoying this book more than All the Pretty Horses, which I liked a lot as well. I just realize that I've read other novels from McCarthy such as Suttree and The Road, which I also enjoyed quite a bit. McCarthy is a fabulous writer and has a way of letting the readers immerse themselves into the plot and language and dialogue and style. It's really hard to describe. I'm already looking forward the final book in the trilogy.
