This is a great video, super surprised you only had 33 followers! I noticed that your face was a bit blurry throughout - try manually adjusting the focus of your camera so your face is the focal point and it would have been even better. Keep up the great work!

Social anxiety can be Functional - people can actually socialize and still suffer from social anxiety. Social anxiety is not fear of socializing. This is common myth - but the problem with this bias is the so called "cure" - because the "cure" tells the socially anxious person that their brain is abnormal and they need to fix their brain and behavior. Well in reality - unless being serial killer and someone anti-social with agenda to harm others - there is nothing wrong with the brain. When we are explained that our brain cannot be trusted and that we need to spend focus and time on monitoring our behavior and brain - we will develop mental illness which was not present before. Social anxiety is fear of criticism and scrutiny. It is not fear of talking to people in general. Social won't go away when we socialize, think analogy of being stuck in toxic job with ongoing mobbing from the boss, colleagues and customers - and you can't quit this toxic job due to finances - so you are socializing with people but they are aggressive, intrusive, violent and you can't defend yourselves because you need income. So you fawn to aggressive people in order to stay alive. That is social anxiety. Going to parties is shyness issue, not social anxiety. 1) Learn about social anxiety. This can take up to 20 years because it is complex. Instead of wasting time on it, better solution is to follow people who wasted 20 or 30 years on studying it - and listen to them in order to save time. Understanding symptoms will do nothing. Being mindful in social anxiety means being aware of fawning and operant conditioning and narcissistic abuse. 2) Set realistic goals. People with social anxiety have goal - to keep safe. That is why social anxiety is there. So we need to see what is and who is dangerous. You describe social anxiety as feeling panic in public space. Social anxiety is called social + anxiety. It means that anxiety stems from the social element: toxic people. It is not called socializing anxiety. Anxiety does not stem from socializing. It is not called self anxiety - people are not afraid of themeselves. IT is clearly called social+anxiety where social is the element which triggers anxiety. Gradual exposure will help to shy people - because they do not have complex trauma, inner critic nor toxic shame. Social anxiety is fear of criticism and scrutiny from others. Exposure to restaurants will not address this trauma fear. Idea that we must expose - leads to belief that we are the problem, that our brain is abnormal. This way we will reject and hate ourselves - and this leads to mental illness and personality disorder. "It is their job to answer your questions" - in toxic country asking service for help means screaming, yelling and hysteria from people in charge. Check out Russian Simpsons intro when Marge goes to market and clerk yells and screams at her. That is reality for some people, not everyone lives in London or NY/LA. Some people live in Shame based culture countries. 3) Shift focus away from me onto others. Socially anxious are already focused on other people - they look for gestures, tone of voice and potential danger and attack from others, as it was in trauma beginnings with bullying incidents. You never had social anxiety. You had shyness, Shy people are egocentric and narcissistic and autistic closed in their world and they cannot see other people around them. That is not social anxiety, by definition. This is more schizoid issue where other people are objects and anxiety stems from inability to interact with "objects". Socially anxious see other people as predators - due to trauma, so they are already highly alert of other people.

I love the different lens you're seeing social anxiety through! Disagree with some of the things you've said like "understanding symptoms will do nothing" and the part about shyness and social anxiety. I've been shy and had social anxiety and they felt very different to me. Without understanding something you can't ever defeat or achieve something, is my view. But once again I am no expert, just a bloke sharing his experiences with it.

@@cameronsims5945 People who hunt symptoms would make Nikola Tesla sick and abnormal (because of his OCD traits) and make him spend his focus in life in fixing his obsession over his symptoms - and the world would be without invention in AC-DC electricity, wifi and radio. People who hunt symptoms are the modern version of witch hunt and Spanish Inquisition - that hunt anyone appearing "abnormal" and to force ableism into others to become squares that fit the narcissistic matrix system. Symptom hunt ends as Tyranny of should and perfectionism - and that is mental illness. Any reaction to anxiety - including self help healing tricks - is still OCD. Any reaction to anxiety leads to OCD.

I didn't have anxiety until my mid 20s. I became hyper aware of body language and speach patterns. It made me anxious know that a lot of people don't say what they mean. Now I sort of look at it through a logical lense and make a game of it.

For example. I could tell when someone is anxious. It made me worried why they were and if I should be too, maybe if I was the one causing it

Interesting perspective! Also insightful, even if you were the one making them anxious (which I doubt but who knows) then you could adjust your body language to make them more comfortable and see how they react to the change.
