    2019 Hawaii team is the best ncaa mens volleyball team in history imo. 74 straight set wins, dominant in all categories 🤯 Ik they didn’t win the ncaa championship but damn it was close.

    Both teams can put up the wall, but it came down to ball control, and serving. The Bows were able to put the pressure from the service line and BYU could not run their offense. Hawaii middles were impressive, Rado Parapunov, the national player of the year had a great match and torched BYU from the service line. Hawaii's setter also became a factor in the match. The commentators mentioned that BYU has not faced any lefties in their conference. There were many in the Big West Conference, and a couple of them on Hawaii's starting line-up.

    And everybody predicted BYU!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  • @hankakah4180
    @hankakah41802 жыл бұрын

    The people that predicted BYU were those who took their last win sweep at Hawaii in 2020 as the measuring stick. UH came back the second night after 2 sets down and won the last 3 to take night #2. In THAT two games, it was NOT Thelle serving in the 3 straight set loss, and the 1 set on the second night. Thelle came in on the 2nd night and the team became more in sync and less predictable. Another factor was that Colton Cowell did NOT play in those 2 games, in this championship game he did! The rest is history!

    Congrats to the Rainbow Warriors as National Champions! But I'd like to point out a few things that bothers me: When UH won the National Championship in 2002, they had to vacate that title and forfeit for what the NCAA accused Costas Theocharidis as being a professional and therefore an ineligible player. He played against professionals to raise the level of his game, did not take payments, nor have an agent. The NCAA still regarded him as a professional and not an amateur. Now many of the NCAA major conferences are OK with paying their "amateur players" in football and basketball as they use their photographs and promote them. So explain to us how Michelle Wie, plays in tournaments as an amateur against professionals, doesn't get paid, still plays for Stanford and still keeps her amateur status? She was outperforming guy tournaments so she played against professionals to raise her game. Many college amateurs play in these tournaments like the Masters, Pebble Beach etc, why do they keep THEIR amateur status until THEY decide to go pro? As a Hawaii fan, when the Rainbow Wahine under Dave Shoji won Championships, the majority of the top 25 teams were from California and the west. Hawaii's arch rivals were teams like Pacific, Long Beach State, BYU etc. The NCAA decided to promote volleyball among the rest of the nation by making a National Championship. They made a Final Four format with I believe a team from the west, midwest, east and south. So teams like Florida , Penn St., Nebraska would go to the Final Four because they came out of those regions but they did NOT PLAY top 20 ranked teams all year. The west could only send ONE west coast team even though 20 of the top 25 came from the WEST! The NCAA said they needed to do this to spread out the popularity of volleyball. Volleyball is a west coast sport. Do you see the NCAA doing such a provision to make it so HawaiI or CA sends a representative to the Final Four of Ice Hockey? What this caused was Major conferences to recruit the 5 star recruits to their conferences, offering $40k scholarships to major colleges, while recruiting for the smaller colleges suffered. A Penn St, or Florida, Nebraska can say to recruits, we go to the Final Four every year! Why do you think Pacific is no longer a power? They don't even have a team anymore. The NCAA just gave the major conferences another way to get another National Championship, that's all that matters. So as the brackets showed, look at who Penn State had to play in their play in game. BYU lost to UCLA in their conference. The Big west had 4 of their top teams in the top 20. Yet odds are that if UH won their conference outright, they would have probably selected UCLA as an at large berth. Yet BYU swept Penn St, who swept their match, and now UH swept BYU. The had it where UCSB , the conference winner, had to go through the same bracket as Hawaii who they already played 3 times before. I would have wanted to see how UCSB did against Penn St. and BYU. Why have UH and UCSB eliminate each other, make the other conferences PROVE that THEY can.

    The curse of Costas Theocharidis is OVER! Done-zo, finished, OVER! 2021 is the year of the Warrior! Congrats to Hawaii. As a Beach alum, the torch we gave to the Bows will be in good hands. Carry it well UH! Go Beach, Go Bows and Go Big West!
