I was so blessed.I got to sit in the 3 N.Y.ball parks. Grew up a Yankee fan so got to go to many doubleheaders at the real Yankee Stadium,and watch Mickey ,Yogi,Roger, Elston, Bobby,Whitey, between 1958 and 1966. My dads dad was a Brooklyn fan, so in 1957 he took me against my moms wish's, to Ebbits Field. The Cubs. Gill and the Duke and Jackie. My dads brother a Giants fan but did not get to the Polo Grounds till 1962 to see the Met's play. Maybe 5 games in 62 and 63 one was against the other expansion team Houston Colt 45's.I got to see games in all 3 classic N.Y.Stadiums.I saw Mays play both against and with the Met' So I also got to see Willie, Mickey and the Duke.Nothing tops that!

that game woke up US Soccer for sure. it marked the end of the landon donovan/clint dempsey/tim howard era and brought up the kids. Yes they still play very defensive against the big guns of the world but you finally saw talent. A lot of the big names play overseas, winning trophies, contributing, etc. and when the US beat Mexico is both the Nations League and Gold Cup, that marked a huge change.

I remember an older gentleman who never watched another baseball game again after the Dodgers moved from Brooklyn. I have lost a lot of enthusiasm for all sports because of the greed of the owners who are counting on sports to be some type of drug that has people hooked on so that they can take advantage of the fans.
People complained about old Comiskey Park being across the Dan Ryan Expressway from the Robert Taylor Homes CHA projects, but there was a similar set of public housing towers within a few hundred ft of the Polo Grounds. That could have been dangerous for fans and players during the tumult of the later 60s and "bad" New York of the 70s and 80s.

I've been a baseball fan since the 1968 season, but never realized that the Polo Grounds and Yankee Stadium were practically 'next door' to each other.
