Welcome to the Cradle Cat KZread channel! Here we provide behind-the-scenes content and tutorials on my music production process, mostly in Logic Pro X. I want to share my process online because I've gained so much from others that have done the same. Check out my library of videos that give holistic song breakdowns as well as more tactical Logic Pro X guides for music production.
I live stream music feedback sessions Fridays 3PM CEST over on Twitch and am happy to answer any questions you might have. I also do my best to respond to every viewer video comment as well - I really appreciate when you take the time to engage with my videos at that level and want to help you out if you have a question in the comments. Thanks!
i can see you've got a certain swagger
Thanks a lot! This was extremely helpful, I procrastinated learning this for years. For anyone like me who didn't have outputs showing in Kontakt, click on the third icon from the left in Kontakt's top bar. There you can select what to view; select Outputs.
Glad it helped! And yes - super common question is on that Outputs panel not showing up. Good callout there. Hope you're making some awesome music with it!
Great I just bought a M2 Studio with the base storage. Was trying to figure out what the best way to configure Cubase and SD3 as the libraries are quite large
Oh nice, let us know what you think of the Studio! I've heard great things - I'm curious how quiet the fans are. My M1 Max Macbook Pro is virtually silent, and the fans almost never turn on. Hope this video helped with your Cubase / SD3 setup! Thanks for checking out the channel
So which usb dock do you have ? Which trademarks are the quality ones ?
This makes me so happy. It feels like I just walked into a production studio, and someone gave me all their gear. Getting this set up on my own would have taken forever
Glad you found it helpful! What kind of music are you working on?
Thanks for this dude -can't wait to try v soon 🙌
Let us know how it goes! Hope it helps you make something cool!
oh my god i hate kontakts User Interface
😂 I wonder if it's a limitation with Logic or with all DAWS. The built-in DMD and Drummers in Logic have a huge advantage (at least for mixing setup) in Logic cuz you instantly get all the separate tracks. At least with this you can save it in a Template and be done with it.
Great. Merci from Paris
thanks for checking out the channel! Hope it helped with your music in Paris!
dumb shit ever
Sorry the templates won't open in Logic Pro 11
thanks for letting me know! I'll try to do a round of updates to all these for Logic 11!
Really great stuff, again - thanks so much!
hope it helped on your music! thanks for watching!
I'm in Komplete Kontrol after creating of the channels (Stereo and Mono) and then I go to the mixer I'm not seeing the "output" section so that I can rout my drums?? .........Has NI moved it to another location?
Do you mean you're in Kontakt? (Kontrol is the keyboard hardware). In Kontakt, I believe you need to go to the Show Panes option, and make sure Output is selected 🙌 Sometimes that's not checked so it doesn't show
Thanks! you SOOOO much!!!
Glad it helped!
So you say you copy everything over, do you also delete the original file? I’m on a 500gb m3 pro (silly me) and I know my sessions will fill up my hard drive space quickly. I want to keep room for more plugins and virtual instruments I get down the line (Trilian was like 40gb!).
Do you mean when I move things from my old hard drive to my new one? Yes - I'll open up some things on the new hard drive just to verify it's all good there, but then I take it off the old hard drive. You might also find this video helpful - kzread.info/dash/bejne/a6JkqtWGZL2qZNI.html I run my sessions (project files) directly on my external SSD. I just have plugins, DAW, VSTs, etc on my laptop itself - so the 500gb shouldn't be a huge issue for you 👍
Lifesaver! Thank you!!
Glad it helped! Thanks for checking out my videos! 🙌
This is always a problem for me, I can come up with pretty good ideas in my mind but I just cant find the sounds that I heard in my mind in the daw when I actually try to make the song. So many wasted ideas :(
it can be tough! I think a lot of it is just playing with all the instruments and plugins so you can have a lot of sounds to pull from when your get an idea! That, or get really good at describing the ideas so you can work with someone who can help!
@@CradleCat great thanks for the suggestion man!
How do I get my google analytics code?
you need to set up a Google Analytics account and you can get it from there 👌 thanks for checking out the video!
Ok but didn't you have any problems setting up an external ssd with you projects in it for cloud backup? I tried using google drive and it made couple of files in the projects corrupetd
Great question - I will do some more testing on this and confirm!
Thank you so much god dammn I was about to throw my computer by the window
it's even worse with an arpeggiator setting on
Thank you so much man.
Thanks for checking out the video, happy to help! Took me awhile to figure out the ideal setup and I wanted to share 🙌
March 2024. It started happening to me today after I’ve had this new m32 for a few months.. honestly really annoyed with NI
Yeah, it still happens to me, too. Haven't found a full preventative fix even after trying other ideas from the comments here or other videos. This temporary fix is still my go-to
Can you bounce these so each track becomes a separate audio file? (Make stems, essentially)
Yes - when exporting you can chose to export individual channels, or, when you right click to create Tracks for channels, that will let you export them as audio stems from the tracks.
Going to do this now following your video!
Thanks for checking out the video! Hope it helps your setup! 🙌
Great tutorial. Can you please share any videos you did on setting logicpro with various buses. Thanks
hey! Sure - this one is on using busses for reverb. kzread.info/dash/bejne/goyepKSKfrLJdpc.html thanks for checking out my channel! 🙌
Great Vid!! Quick question, what type of laptop(gigs, speed, ram, etc) would i need to handle all the plugins for this template
Good question, but I'm not quite sure what the minimum would be. If it helps, it works on my old backup laptop: 2016 Macbook Pro, 2.9 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7, 16 GB. Storage would just depend on how much you're storing on you laptop (I also use external hard drives for this with music production, so actual laptop storage isn't as critical)
Thank YOu...really well explained!!
glad you found it helpful! Thanks for checking out my channel and hope it helped your setup!
Hello my frends I have on problems with kontakt 7 wen I play with not recording its okay but wen I recording its to bad nots Only noises Pleas Help me to fixed
Try turning on Recording > Low Latency Mode in Logic. and then try increasing your Buffer Size setting in logic pro x
Super Nice Could you do the same with VST ? Installed on external drive ?
I wouldn't recommend it. From what I understand, the VST themselves will perform best when installed directly on your computer/laptop. However, the sound libraries for those VSTs can be installed on external drives (that's what I do). Hope that helps and thanks for watching!
@@CradleCat thx for the answer ;)
Bro looking straight through me💀
😂😂😂👁️👁️
Great explanatory video. What's the song? Sounds great, and the recording/mixing sounds great too.
Thank you for watching, hope you found it helpful! The song is called “New You” 👍 here’s the link! open.spotify.com/track/1LD0IC4uma2eYampQqIFwk?si=7wkbt_V1Qp-0Vau6591DRg
backblaze for project file is goated btw
Thanks for the tip! I haven't checked that one out - what's makes it so good?
Hey great video, quick question tho, when in the kontakt window, after goin to settings, I don’t have the ‘options’ option or the tracks underneath, help?
Hey thanks! Good question - You'll want to click the panels-looking button toward the top of the Kontakt interface. This will give you other options of panes to include in your Kontakt window. Hope that helps, and thanks for checking out the channel! 🙌
I could be wrong, but I think that you cannot sync multiple drives to Google Drive. I am having the issue currently where my internal MacBook pro drive is full and I would like to keep artwork on my internal drive and music production on and external SSD... but have all of it syncing with Google Drive (which is similar to the diagram at the end of your video). According to my research, this is not possible. If you know of a way to do this, please let me know. Thanks.
Hey! That should be possible (at least it is for me!) On your Macbook, go to Google Drive (app) > Preferences > Add Folder. Then just add whichever folders/drives you want to sync. Hope that helps!! 🙌 And thanks for checking out the channel!
I know this is a slightly older video but this just helped me so much, thank you!
Hey glad it helped!! Thanks for checking out the video. What kind of music are you making?
Please, What App are you using to Illustrate this presentation? Thank you.
I'm using draw.io in this video! 🙌 Thanks for watching!
Very nice and good stuff. However, it didnt work on my gear. Im using Mojave 10.14.6 and logic pro x 10.3.3. Do you have an old template that may work for me?
Hey thanks for checking out the video! And no, I made the template after those versions, so I don't have anything that would fit for those. It'll be more work - but you could also re-create it manually in a project, then click Save As Template when you're done! Hope that helps a bit!
@@CradleCat Thanks for the reply!
how did you get -1 bar at the beginning of your project? also can you change the pitch of notes for each dum hit in the piano roll?
On the bar labels - there's a tiny triangle on the left side, and you can just drag that to the left to start you project before the 1 bar 👍 On the pitches - I don't think piano role works for this setup (it's mainly for output control). I haven't tried getting pitch control via piano roll with Kontakt yet - I usu just automate the pitch (from the pitch/tune knob within Battery) when I need to do that. Hope that helps! Thanks for checking out the channel!
Very helpful. I'll be organizing my files this weekend. Thank you!
Glad you found it helpful! Let us know how it works for you and what cloud backup you end up using! 👍
Thanks so much!!
You're welcome! what kind of music are you making with it?
Hi@@CradleCat ! My goal is to go further on Logic to be able to finalize songs in clean demos. I will see if I go further after that (to fully produce or to work with a pro). My music style : indie/pop/rock , with voice, guitar, bass and synth tracks, in French; I will also explore adding other digital instruments (cello, brass, samples..); So I am at the stage of exploring basics in logic, but also in music production (gain staging, EQ, compression, etc.); voilà 😊
would you ever create a pop punk vocal preset to download? can’t figure it out or find anything anywhere for logic!
that seems like something I could do! I love pop punk so that would be fun to work on
@@CradleCat that would be sick, thank you!!
This is amazingly helpful - thanks so much for sharing!
Hey glad you found it helpful! Thanks for watching 🙌
I’ve run into a problem. Other than one of the loop tracks, the rest of percussion loops are silent even though I can see the levels on each.
Found that my vocal track was muted. Why would this affect the other tracks?
Where is your routing set? I would check the output of the percussion tracks you can’t hear. If they’re going to a bus, that might be muted.
@@CradleCat Thank you!
Now I’m wondering what it’ll sound like if you re-record those mumbling BVs with the actual lyrics. Will they add to it. Or will they make no difference. Bcs I might just leave my BVs like that too😂😅
Only one way to find out 🤷♂️ idk if it’ll work on every background vocal, but I’m definitely keeping my ears open to it more now that it’s worked well once for me
Great stuff here! Please can you talk about what goes in the send section, co i believe that also contributed to the beauty of the sound. Thanks
Hey glad you found it helpful! A little more focus on the Sends section is a good video suggestion 🙌
Never knew what the glue tool could do, tha ks great video! After you have fully tuned a track, do you keep it in auto flex or bounce down and switch to a new track to save cpu?
I’ll typically bounce it down to a new track alternative and turn of Flex. I use track alternatives for stuff like this instead of new tracks (that might be a good next video topic for me 👍)
@@CradleCat totally! Now I'm googling track alternatives, never hears of it
Would have rendered stuff down that could like the intro hit
That... would've been a good idea 😂
Of all your template tracks, where would you put a loop?
Good question - depends what the loop is! In general, I would put a loop on it's own blank audio track and mix it from there. What you do to it depends on what the loop is (bass, guitar, synth, etc.), so you could use the plugins from the closest track for a starting point. For which group - I'd try to add it into whichever group fits best (bass loops in bass bus, drums in drum bus, etc.) Hope that helps!
@@CradleCat Like if I have several percussion loops going at the same time?
@@CradleCat Wasn't sure in what strip percussion would sound best.
I would add those to an audio track within the DRUM bus. The existing tracks in the DRUM bus in the template are just channels of Logic's Drum VST (meaning they're individual outputs for MIDI drum VST, and aren't where you want to drop audio loops) @@j.gregmorrison1953 hope that helps!
@@CradleCat Ok i think I follow. Is there any other guidance you can provide on other instruments that go with what bus? One that comes to mind is electric guitar. I don't think that is in your template.
"How many tracks is too many?" The only limit should be your computer's limit Everything till crash is good
I love it. This answer will only get better with each new generation of computers haha.
Super clear run down. Thanks a lot!
You're welcome! Glad you found it helpful! What kind of music are you working with?
