It's more compact than a typical linear actuator such as a hydraulic/air cylinder and it also consumes less energy to operate and you also have more precision and consistency of stroke of actuation.
It's shorter than twice the length of an linear actuator.
I think they use this in artillery auto loaders to ram shells into the breach

that chain can take more than 400 horsepower lol the thing is 3 feet wide. engine timing chains 1cm wide can take 400 hp
I'd venture a guess that there was a typo in the narration when he said the chain shown can handle 400 hp. A chain like that is probably good for 4000 hp or more. That thing is HUGE!
