The McKenzie Institute, USA

The McKenzie Method® of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy® (MDT) is a biopsychosocial system of musculoskeletal care emphasizing patient empowerment and self-treatment. This system of diagnosis and patient management applies to acute, subacute and chronic conditions of the spine and the extremities.

It offers a reliable and practical approach that focuses on “what patients need” and not on “what therapists want to do.” Rarely are expensive tests required, as Certified MDT clinicians have a valid indicator to know right away whether - and how - the method will work for each patient.

See the McKenzie Method in action and hear what experts and researchers have to say about one of the world's most effective physical therapy system of care.

    What an enlightening video, Joe! 🌟 Your journey from personal trainer to a dedicated physical therapist is truly inspiring. It's amazing to see how you've evolved in your practice, placing a strong emphasis on understanding the root causes of back pain and sciatica. 👨‍⚕💪 The insights into mechanical pain, the use of the McKenzie method, and the importance of identifying and moving in the right direction to alleviate pain without resorting immediately to surgery or medications are eye-openers. 🔄🙌 Your dedication to educating people to manage and prevent their pain is commendable. This approach not only empowers individuals to take control of their health but also potentially saves them from unnecessary procedures and expenses. 💰🚫 Understanding that activities and postures we take for granted may contribute to our discomfort is a critical step towards a healthier spine. Your analogy of “brushing and flossing” our back with the right movements perfectly encapsulates the idea of maintaining spinal hygiene. 🦴🧼 For anyone struggling with persistent back issues, exploring the endocannabinoid system's role in managing pain and inflammation could offer additional relief, alongside these expertly guided mechanical and exercise interventions. 🌿🔬 Thanks for sharing this wealth of knowledge, Joe. Definitely a thumbs up from me, and I'm looking forward to applying these principles to improve my daily habits and posture. Subscribed for more wisdom! 👍💯 #BackPainAwareness #McKenzieMethod #HealthEmpowerment

    The pain is triggered by movements which inflame the disc which causes the nerve to be pressed or pinched. There is also muscle and ligament fatigue caused by repetitive and stressful movements

  • @jeremymeyer5552
    @jeremymeyer55523 ай бұрын

    Another factor is stress in the body thats why muscle relaxers are effective, many people have cronically tight psoas but the weakness in the back makes it difficult to release.

    I bought one of these type of pillows. It does help. Not too bad. I had to get one super soft. It's more comfortable if you have this pillow over a soft chair 💺. It won't work as good with a hard chair. You need all the cushion u can get.

    I am a Plumber of over 40 years and have been a cyclist all my life and my back always hurts....Talk about bending forward... I do 40 minutes of exercises for my back every day just to manage the pain and I guess I have learned to live with it but would love to eliminate it . I have also had multiple significant spinal injuries.... Would love to find the right person to help me with it.

    This is great! It's like a functional medicine approach to back pain. Also it was extremely interesting to know that despite abnormal findings on MRI correlation does not mean causation. Which explains why many people I know have had surgery and still have pain. I will be recommending anyone I know experiencing back pain to find a Mackenzie trained therapist. I'm an RN and have become disillusioned with mainstream medicine in often doesn't accurately find the cause for most conditions, many times it doesn't even look for causes and just treats symptoms. This was a extremely informative lecture, and great presentation, and has made me become extremely mindful of my posture throughout the day, and understand why I'm always feeling the need to stretch my back and neck. Now I have a better idea of which stretches to use to reverse the "C" curved posture that we engage in with so many activities. Thank you very much! Subscribed.

    When you sit slouched for prolonged periods of time, you elongate the ligaments in the back giving a clear way for the discs to move backwards, then one day you bend over to pick up a stick and BAAM, you wonder how a simple act you do 3500 times a day has suddenly disabled you.

    I have had tailbone pain ever since I tried to sit in my gaming chair that I got for my bday/Christmas last year. It didn’t occur until then. I used a pillow that came with another gaming chair we had in the house, but it still didn’t work. No matter what I’ve tried, nothing seems to work. I have to keep using my mom’s Xbox SX in another room with the bulky and big recliner that I used before I got the chair.

    I've had Two L4-s1 discectomies, at ages 19 and 24. it's been almost 2 years since my last surgery, but honestly it's lifetime crazy stuff and i worry about needing another one and going thru total hellfire again. i was a gymnast/runner/circus acrobat. Thank you for this video, i love what he said about you could be very fit, strong, flexible, etc but still have significant back issues. people always say "youre so fit, how could you have a bad back?" Being thin doesnt equate to fitness; whether its a conversational blip or a scientific misunderstanding, it's inherently fatphobic. it makes it harder for these patients to do physical therapy and actually take care of themselves when doctors/peers diminish or make assumptions about pain experiences based on build or weight or looks. Also when he said "when you feel your leg talking to you" and re mechanical injury, some days feeling much worse than others.. so true. anyway for pain mgmt now i dont do anything save for PT and weed smoking although i dont even know how much the latter helps with physical pain as much as just mental grounding and pleasure lol
