Tokyo Llama

Tokyo Llama

Hello!

My name is Jaya, I live in southern Ibaraki, just an hour out of central Tokyo, with my wife and our twin boys.

In this channel I'm documenting the process of buying and renovating an abandoned Japanese farmhouse.

I'll also do some videos where I visit other renovations here in Japan, as well as videos on related topics.

I'm originally from Australia, though we lived in London, UK, for about 11 years, until 2017.

I built some raised beds similar to yours but lined the inside with plastic sheet to hopefully stop the wood from rotting. I am always interested in your tools as you have things not common here, thx

I would have asked the carpenters to sign and date a rafter, it’s a work of art and beautiful.

Beautiful job, love your work. One small note, the first 6 min of the video was hard to watch because of how much the camera shook. You might want to slow down some of those shots.

Thank you so much for refurbishing and re-purposing so many original pieces within the house! I've seen too many house flippers out there buy up old homes with so much history and character, just to absolutely gut them of everything that gave them charm. Seeing you add more wood to the antique doors so that they could still be used gave me so much joy

I have been sending my son the tools you use and assortment of books illustrating Japanese wood work, whenever he has a birthday or Christmas. At my suggestion he has been watching your wonderful videos. He has his own work shop and has started experimenting with these techniques whenever appropriate.

One thing about abandoned Asian homes....they will let it look straight up haunted before stealing things out of it.

Excellent video, I am considering buying a home like yours and fixing it up myself. Beginner Fixer Upper, how difficult was building permit process in Japan? Material easy to buy? no Home Depot there I assume. Thanks Again,

A rude question maybe but how much did you roughly spend on the renovation? Because this is a house I’d much prefer over the million dollar modern mansions and the fact you bought I’d for that “little” amount of money is crazy, beautiful video 👍🏼👍🏼

Hello, does anyone know the name of this house type? The main house's roof has many impressive details. As I know the roof maybe is inspired by Heian period architecture, and constructed with Kawara tiles

4year renovation, recently japs just build less than 3mos😅 akiya or abandoned homes quite lovely to purchase due to its price but lots of money for renovation it’s just like buying a new one😅countryside like ibarakki is very much prone to tremors, most people abandoned their homes due to this reason
